Knowing Jesus - Knowing His Provision

Introduction:

Things Jesus Wants You to Know About His Provision: (John 6:1-15)

  1. He Already has a plan. (John 6:5-6)
  2. He requires Child-like faith. (John 6:7-9)

    Matthew 18:2-4 - And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

  1. You need to Thank God ahead of time. (John 6:10-13)

    John 11:41 - And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me..."

    Mark 11:24 - Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

    Colossians 4:2 - Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

  2. The provision itself isn't the Endgame . (John 6:14-15)

    Deuteronomy 18:18 - I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.

  1. What was your big “take-away” from this passage / message?

  2. What do you think was the purpose of Jesus giving the “test” (John 6:6)? Why do you think the disciples, despite all they’ve seen from Jesus, “failed” the test?

  3. Read Matthew 18:2-4. How does this child-like faith show up in John 6:1-15? How can you begin praying with child-like faith if this is not something you have done before?

  4. Why did Jesus thank His Father ahead of time, i.e., before the miracle? What does this say about how we should approach asking the Lord for things in prayer?

to Come to Jesus: (John 5:30-47)

  1. It's NOT because of "Lack of Evidence . (John 5:30-40)

    3 Ways God the Father Bears Witness about Jesus:

    1. Through John the Baptist's testimony. (John 5:33-35)
    2. Through Jesus' miracles. (John 5:36)
    3. Through God's Written Word. (John 5:37-40)
  1. Because you don't Love God. (John 5:41-43)

    John 3:19 - And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.

    Romans 1:21 - For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

  2. Because you're Self-centered . (John 5:44)
  3. Because you don't believe God's Word . (John 5:45-47)

  1. What was your big “take-away” from this passage / message?

  2. What 3 things did the Father give as evidence of Jesus’ identity? Why did Jesus find it necessary to point these out (John 5:31)? Which one seems most important to you?

  3. Read Romans 1:21. What is the connection between thankfulness and faith?

  4. How can you convince a self-centered person that they are, in fact, self-centered? How can you recognize this trait in yourself?

  5. Explain why unbelief of the Old Testament leads to unbelief of Jesus (John 5:47). Do you have to believe Genesis is literal in order to believe in Jesus?

  1. Submission is power. (John 5:19-23)

Satan's Lies:

  1. Man is basically good
  2. The "good Lord" overlooks our faults.
  3. If we try to do right, God lets us into heaven.
  4. The pain we go through on earth is God's only judgment for sin.
  5. I've always been a Christian.
  6. Any "religious path" will get you to heaven.
  7. We can't really be sure of heaven.

    1 John 5:13 - I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
