Intentional Faith: A "How To" Guide - How to Rescue a Stray

Introduction:

1 John 2:19 - They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.

How to Rescue a Stray (James 5:19-20):

  1. Learn how to Recognize a stray. (Jas 5:19a, 20a)

    Matthew 9:13 - For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

    Romans 5:8 - but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us...

  2. Remember what's at stake. (Jas 5:20b)

    Revelation 21:8 - But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.

  3. Take Responsibility . (Jas 5:19b, 20a)

    2 Corinthians 5:18, 20 - All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation... Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.

  4. Encourage Repentance . (Jas 5:19b, 20)

If I'm Going to Tell the Truth: (James 5:12)

  1. I must understand Truth is the highest priority .
  2. I must stop Seaking Deceptively .

  3. I must speak Honestly .
  4. I must reckon with the Consequences for lying .

  5. I must do What is true .

    Colossians 3:9 - Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices.

    Ephesians 4:25 - Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

    Matthew 7:12 - So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

    1 John 2:3-6 - And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

How to Craft Your 5-Year Plan (James 4:13-17)

  1. You need to know what you Don't Know . (Jas 4:13-14)
    1. You don't know what is going to Happen tomorrow. (Jas 4:14a)

      Proverbs 27:1 - Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

    2. You don't know if you will Have a tomorrow. (Jas 4:14b)
  2. You need to stop the Self-Confidence . (Jas 4:15-16)

    Numbers 20:10-12 - Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?" And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock. And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them."

  3. You need to do whatever God says - ASAP . (Jas 4:17)

    Philippians 1:20 - as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.
