Pillar 2: Lifting High the Name of Jesus in Worship

Psalm 27:4 - One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.

God is looking for worshipers!

Myths about Worship:

  1. God prefers EMOTIONLESS truth groaning

  2. God prefers WILD and CRAZY

  3. Worship must be relevant to UNBELIEVERS

  4. Worship brings us into God’s PRESENCE

  5. Worship must be a certain STYLE

What Worship Looks Like (Psalm 96):

  1. WHAT WORSHIP LOOKS LIKE OUT THERE

    • You worship by SONG (Psalm 96:1)

    • You worship by WITNESSING (Psalm 96:2-3)

    • You worship by GIVING (Psalm 96:9)

  2. WHAT WORSHIP LOOKS LIKE IN HERE

    • Up with the FRESH, down with the LEFTOVERS (Psalm 96:1)

    • Up with the THANKFUL, down with the FORGETFUL (Psalm 96:3)

    • Up with the REVERENT, down with the FAMILIAR (Psalm 96:9)

How can I ramp up for Sunday?

Our Father in Heaven, as we come before you just now, we're about to turn to your Word.

    00:09-00:12

We realize that's not a popular thing in a lot of places.

    00:15-00:28

Father, you can be a group of people that still believe that you wrote this book and that you are communicating words of life in this book.

    00:31-00:35

Father, just now we pray for our children that have gone to hire me around.

    00:35-00:40

I pray that you would be with everyone working in the children's ministry.

    00:43-00:47

As they pour into the kids and help parents disciple their own children.

    00:49-00:51

Father, we lift up the offering to you.

    00:53-00:58

And just pray, Father, that you would bless it and use it for your purposes.

    01:02-01:05

Father, we thank you for this opportunity to come.

    01:08-01:12

Prepare us now to not just be hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word as well.

    01:14-01:19

We pray these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

    01:30-01:48

If you would have known me back in about 1983, you would have seen me running around my parents' house pulling out a plastic sword that I would tuck in the back of my shirt and lifting it I am saying by the power of...

    01:49-01:49

    Greyskull.

    01:49-01:50

    Thank you.

    01:50-01:52

Some of you guys know what I'm talking about, don't you?

    01:52-01:52

    Thank you.

    01:53-01:54

    By the power of Greyskull!

    01:55-01:56

    Why did I do that?

    01:58-01:59

    I was a huge fan of He-Man.

    02:00-02:00

    Alright?

    02:01-02:03

We're getting some things on the floor early on, I get that.

    02:03-02:05

    But I just, I loved He-Man.

    02:05-02:07

And I had one of those plastic swords.

    02:07-02:10

    And that was 1983, though.

    02:10-02:13

And I don't do that as much anymore.

    02:14-02:14

    (laughter)

    02:15-02:36

And if you had gone forward a couple years, 1985, you would have seen me jumping off of the chair, which was the top turnbuckle, onto prone, my pet monster, and hitting him with a leg drop.

    02:36-02:41

Because like most other people in America back in the mid-80s, I was a Hulkamaniac.

    02:42-02:47

And I thought I was Hulk Hogan, or going to be the next Hulk Hogan.

    02:48-02:57

And then if you would have fast-forwarded even just a few more years, 1991, you would have seen me with longer, shaggy hair.

    02:58-03:04

And a drawer full of flannel, like a lot of other people my age then.

    03:05-03:18

it was what? It was grunge, it was Seattle music, it was Pearl Jam and Nirvana and those kinds of things. Well, here's my point. You become like what you worship.

    03:21-03:34

And what is God's number one goal for you as a believer? It's no secret, Romans 8, 29. God, what do you want for us? God says, "My goal is that you are conformed into the image of my Son." That's the purpose of salvation.

    03:34-03:36

Salvation is not a ticket to heaven.

    03:37-03:38

    It's not fire insurance.

    03:38-03:43

It is God taking dead people and making us alive people.

    03:44-03:53

And part of being alive, part of maturing in our Christian walk, is God conforming us to be like His Son.

    03:54-03:56

And it's true that you become like what you worship.

    03:58-03:59

    Do you worship money?

    04:01-04:02

    You'll become a greedy person.

    04:04-04:05

    Do you worship sex?

    04:07-04:09

    You become a lustful person.

    04:10-04:11

    Do you worship yourself?

    04:13-04:15

    You become a self-centered person.

    04:16-04:18

    Do you worship Jesus Christ?

    04:18-04:35

Because if you truly worship Jesus Christ, maybe you find yourself becoming more like But Jesus Christ Himself, I'd encourage us all to be checking what we're worshipping.

    04:35-04:40

Sometimes in church, you get a bigger pastor, you hear this a lot, but I was bored.

    04:42-04:46

Sometimes I find myself tuning out during worship time.

    04:46-04:51

I think maybe we've all been guilty of that, but we need to check ourselves on that.

    04:52-04:56

Because we are worshipping Jesus Christ.

    04:59-05:18

If I were to ask you, "What are you worshipping?" Or let's phrase it this way, if I were to say, "Well, suppose the Lord very tangibly and very visibly came down this morning and said, 'I'll give you one thing, any one thing that you want.' What would you ask the Lord for?" What would you ask God for?

    05:20-05:26

And see, your response might help you understand a little bit more about how you worship.

    05:28-05:29

Because do you know what the psalmist said?

    05:31-05:35

He said, "One thing have I asked of the Lord." This is in Psalm 27, verse 4.

    05:35-05:38

"One thing I've asked of the Lord." What did he ask for?

    05:39-05:48

He says, "That I will seek after." He says, "I'm actually going after this, and I'm going after it myself too." He said that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

    05:51-05:57

To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.

    06:00-06:02

So we're going to be talking about worship today.

    06:02-06:04

We did it for our four pillars last week.

    06:05-06:08

We talked about proclaiming the authority of God's Word without apology.

    06:09-06:15

This week we're looking at lifting high the name of Jesus through worship.

    06:16-06:22

And much like politics and sports, we're covering a subject that everyone is an expert on, right?

    06:23-06:28

But as Sam said earlier while he was leading us in worship, this is what we were made for.

    06:30-06:33

You realize this is the purpose for which God created us.

    06:34-06:39

He created us to have a relationship with Him.

    06:40-06:42

We are not created for religion.

    06:45-06:52

We are not created to sort of go off and do our own thing and maybe check in with God once a week.

    06:52-06:56

We were created to have a living relationship with the Living God.

    06:58-07:11

In fact, Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John chapter 4 that God is seeking for worshippers who worship Him in spirit and in truth.

    07:12-07:16

So before we turn to the Word, I'm going to give you some myths about worship.

    07:18-07:20

    These are myths about worship.

    07:20-07:21

    Top 5.

    07:22-07:25

If you're taking notes, we're going to stop at the bottom and work our way up.

    07:26-07:28

But here's some myths about worship.

    07:32-07:44

I realize this is week three, but as I was talking earlier with some friends, I know that in talking about worship, at some point in this sermon, you're going to be offended.

    07:45-07:53

I don't mean to do that, but anytime you talk about music, or worship, or practice at the church, your toes are going to get stepped on.

    07:54-07:56

So just get your bullet and maybe keep a little score card.

    07:57-07:58

The point that you got offended in the message.

    07:59-08:00

I don't mean to do that.

    08:01-08:06

Okay? But you just need to evaluate what we're talking about with the Word of God.

    08:07-08:09

Okay? And here's some myths about worship.

    08:10-08:15

Myth number five is God prefers emotionless truth-probing.

    08:17-08:19

    God prefers emotionless truth-probing.

    08:20-09:00

people been to a church like that where it's time to say we pull out our handles we've been looking at the wall and everybody's just you know you've been to a church like that where it's like what are we doing what are we doing? Not too much emotion. We don't want to be labeled as left-wing, charismatic. We don't want to be labeled as big-hot on emotionalism. So, emotional is true currently.

    09:01-09:13

No. Well, number four, here's another myth about worship. God prefers wild and crazy. You know, no way I'm We're going to stand there and get a bubble of stuff, wild and crazy.

    09:13-09:15

The wilder and the crazier the better.

    09:15-09:16

    That's what God prefers.

    09:17-09:18

    And let's ramp it up.

    09:18-09:20

And that's what a lot of ministries are doing.

    09:20-09:22

It's just manipulation. We're going to ramp it up.

    09:23-09:25

Here's my favorite. You can look this up on YouTube.

    09:25-09:26

    Worth your time.

    09:27-09:30

But this worship, I think it's called the what's it called Bill?

    09:30-09:33

The World's Worst Worship Leader or something like that.

    09:33-09:34

You know what I'm talking about?

    09:34-09:35

Maybe some of you have seen it.

    09:36-09:38

But there's this big youth rally, this church thing.

    09:39-09:41

He has a great voice, great musician.

    09:41-09:43

He gets up and he's like, "Alright everybody!

    09:44-09:47

Take off a shoe, a sock, anything!

    09:48-10:06

And start swinging it over your head and sing with me!" "You spin me right round, Jesus, right round..." And he was getting everybody jumping up and down, swinging their shoes over their head, taking that Goofy song, and putting Jesus' name in it, so that's gonna make it Christian, right?

    10:06-10:08

    And that was worship.

    10:12-10:12

    Itch.

    10:14-10:14

    Right?

    10:15-10:17

So, that's another myth about worship.

    10:19-10:23

Number three, worship must be relevant to unbelievers.

    10:24-10:27

Worship must be relevant to unbelievers, and here's what I mean by that.

    10:28-10:36

I was at a camp retreat one time where the pastor said, "Oh, at our church, Our music is just like the stuff that they're playing on the country music station.

    10:37-10:53

Because listen guys, you got that guy coming into church listening to country music, and he's going to be leaving church listening to country music, and he's tuning out while we're doing our music. So we need to make our music as relevant to that person as possible.

    10:54-10:59

Now I'm not talking about music style, I'm talking about the danger of that relevancy idea.

    11:00-11:04

We don't want to offend somebody. Let's not sing the name of Jesus.

    11:05-11:09

Let's not get too bibly about our worship time.

    11:11-11:14

    Listen, 1 Corinthians 14, verses 24-25.

    11:16-11:21

Paul writes, "If all prophesy and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all.

    11:22-11:25

He is called to account by all. The secrets of his heart are disclosed.

    11:25-11:30

So, falling by his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.

    11:31-11:34

That's saying a lot, but just for today's purposes, here's what I want you to see.

    11:35-11:45

Paul's saying when an unbeliever comes in to the midst of a group of believers who are in the presence of God's Word and passionately worshiping God, that's what brings conviction.

    11:47-12:07

Not, "We need to try to meet them at their level, and we'll kind of water down sugar coat the gospel so we don't offend them." He says, "That's not how it works. They're coming into our territory where we're passionate about Jesus Christ." That's what's going to convict them.

    12:09-12:12

"Wow, those people are really excited about this." Yeah, we are a little excited about this.

    12:14-12:15

    Number two.

    12:17-12:21

"Worship brings us into God's presence." Alas, I've said that before.

    12:22-12:24

"We'll bring the going to God's presence in worship." That's a myth.

    12:27-12:29

Jesus brings us into God's presence.

    12:29-12:31

The Bible is crystal clear about that.

    12:33-12:35

Jesus brings us into God's presence.

    12:36-12:39

In fact, the Bible teaches that God is always present.

    12:39-12:40

What does Paul say in Acts 17?

    12:41-12:43

Though He is not far from any of us.

    12:46-12:51

Worship is, we're removing this idea that God's way up there in heaven, somewhere distant.

    12:52-12:53

Let's try to get His attention.

    12:54-12:55

We're worshipping God because He's here.

    12:56-12:57

    He's right here.

    12:57-12:58

    He is right here.

    12:59-13:01

We are in the presence as a congregation of God already.

    13:02-13:04

And that's why we're worshipping Him.

    13:06-13:08

Worship doesn't bring us into His presence.

    13:08-13:10

It reminds us of His nearness.

    13:10-13:49

The topic of worship is a topic that the 1991 version of I Worship best hits, what's that, Wild '91 or whatever, unless it's on that album, it's called Worship.

    13:50-13:53

And we have so narrowed down what it means to worship.

    13:53-13:59

And I really loved the video we watched last week when some of our senior staff out of the armies was talking about worship.

    14:00-14:10

Kirk Randolph had said, "It's not about how we worship, "it's about who we worship." But we all need to check ourselves to make sure we're not pursuing a certain worship style.

    14:13-14:15

We're pursuing the God that we worship.

    14:15-14:16

    That's what we're after.

    14:17-14:18

We wanna worship God in spirit and truth.

    14:20-14:23

And we all have our preferences, that's why this is a hot button.

    14:23-14:27

Some people like one style, some people like another style, and that's okay.

    14:28-14:33

But what concerns me are the people that think that the style that they prefer is the only type.

    14:33-14:33

    That's it.

    14:35-14:40

If you're not seeing this, that you don't really worship Him.

    14:40-14:42

Alright, so let's turn to the Word.

    14:42-14:45

Turn to your Bibles, which would be Psalm 96.

    14:48-14:49

    Psalm 96.

    14:53-14:55

Turn really loud so I can hear you.

    14:56-14:59

Even if you just have to shake your Bible a couple times.

    14:59-15:00

I like to hear that sound.

    15:02-15:04

    I don't have a Bible.

    15:04-15:10

have a Bible. There's Bibles on the table that you can have. We want everybody to be in God's Word with us.

    15:12-15:29

How serious is God about worship? Well, if you look at the location and length of the book of Psalms, that kind of answers it. Longest book in the Bible, 150 chapters, and it's right smack in the middle. I guarantee you take your Bible, open it up, halfway you're going to be in the Psalms.

    15:29-15:31

    God's pretty serious about worship.

    15:33-15:37

But understand as we look at Psalm 96, this isn't a step-by-step guide.

    15:37-15:39

Like, here's how to worship, step one.

    15:40-15:42

Okay, and then after you do that, step two.

    15:42-15:45

It's not like, you know, here's an instruction manual.

    15:46-15:48

    Psalm 96 is just worship.

    15:48-15:50

    It's just worship!

    15:51-15:59

And what we're going to do is go through Psalm 96 and look at some of the elements of worship.

    16:02-16:03

    So what does worship mean?

    16:05-16:06

We're talking a lot about worship.

    16:06-16:07

    What does worship mean?

    16:09-16:11

You know, jot down in your outline, what does worship mean to you?

    16:14-16:15

What does worship mean to you?

    16:16-16:16

    Write something down.

    16:18-16:22

There are a lot of words for it, translated worship in the Bible.

    16:25-16:28

words literally translated falling on your face before.

    16:31-16:35

It's honoring and respecting to the nth degree, that's worship.

    16:38-16:40

What does worship mean to you?

    16:40-16:42

Well, the most important thing is what does worship mean to God?

    16:44-16:47

And let's see if our definitions match up with God's.

    16:49-16:56

So for today, I wanna read Psalm 96, and we're just going to look in the Bible what worship looks like.

    16:57-16:59

First thing we're gonna see is what worship looks like out here.

    17:01-17:01

    Okay?

    17:02-17:06

And then we're going to see what worship looks like in here.

    17:07-17:08

'Cause these are all in the psalm.

    17:08-17:08

    Ready?

    17:08-17:10

Let's read it all, then we're gonna go back.

    17:11-17:16

Typically, we'll go through a verse at a time, but Psalm 96 really isn't structured that way.

    17:16-17:18

    It's just, we're worshiping.

    17:18-17:20

We're gonna go through and pick out the ingredients.

    17:23-17:25

I would sing to the Lord a new song.

    17:26-17:28

Sing to the Lord all the earth.

    17:28-17:32

Sing to the Lord, bless his name, for telling his salvation from day to day.

    17:34-17:39

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.

    17:40-17:42

For great is the Lord and great may he be praised.

    17:43-17:45

He is to be feared above all gods.

    17:47-17:52

For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

    17:52-17:57

Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

    17:59-18:07

Ascribe to the Lord all the glories of the peoples; ascribe to the Lord glory and strength; ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name.

    18:09-18:16

Bring an offering and come into his courts; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him all the earth.

    18:17-18:49

"Say among the nations, 'The Lord reigns; yes, the world is established, and shall never be moved; he will judge the people with equity.' "Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it; "and shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord. For he comes, for he comes to judge the earth; And He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.

    18:51-18:56

Okay, so if you're taking notes, first of all, what does worship look like out here?

    18:56-18:59

What we mean is, ways that we worship.

    19:02-19:04

And three of them we'll look at here.

    19:04-19:06

First of all, you worship by song.

    19:07-19:09

That was a pretty easy one.

    19:09-19:14

    1) O sing to the Lord a new song, or singing to the Lord.

    19:17-19:23

If you read in your Bible Revelation chapter 4 and 5, that's what heaven is.

    19:24-19:32

It is praise after praise, escalating and growing and passionate.

    19:32-19:33

    That's what heaven is.

    19:36-19:50

And if you can read through Revelation 4 and 5 and think, "That sounds kind of boring. That concerns me." You know, I've heard people say that from time to time. "You mean heaven is just sitting around praising God all the time? That kind of sounds boring." That's a concern.

    19:52-19:54

One thing I wonder is, have you ever really worshipped?

    19:56-20:02

Because when you're worshipping God's Spirit and Truth, you never want it to end.

    20:03-20:11

And that's what heaven is. It's being in the presence of God and praise after praise after praise.

    20:15-20:22

So we worship and song. As I said before, nothing starts with a B more than music.

    20:23-20:28

You know, we're talking about styles and instruments and those types of things.

    20:28-20:33

Well, you see what we're doing here, and I'm going to kind of pull the curtain back a little bit just for a second.

    20:34-20:37

I'll let you know a couple things about worship at Harvest Bible Chapel.

    20:38-20:43

First of all, we go for doctrinal accuracy in all the lyrics.

    20:44-20:51

Meaning this, and Sam will tell you every week, you know, if it's a song that I'm not familiar with, what do I say, Sam?

    20:51-20:55

and email me the lyrics, and I go through line by line.

    20:56-20:58

If I wouldn't preach it, we're not going to sing it.

    21:00-21:03

If it's not something I would say, thus sayeth the Lord from his word, we're not gonna sing it.

    21:04-21:12

There's a lot of really nice tunes out there that have some doctrinal inaccuracies, and we're not gonna sing it.

    21:14-21:15

So we go through line by line.

    21:15-21:18

One example of that is, you know, the song, Above All?

    21:20-21:21

We're not going to sing that song.

    21:23-21:31

You know, "Like a rose trampled on the ground, you took the fall and thought of me above all." That's not true.

    21:32-21:34

Jesus was not thinking about me above everything.

    21:34-21:35

    God was on the cross.

    21:36-21:40

He came out of obedience to his Father.

    21:41-21:43

He was thinking about glorifying God.

    21:43-21:44

    Does God love us yet?

    21:44-21:46

Did he send his Son to die for us?

    21:46-21:47

    Absolutely.

    21:47-21:48

    That's all true.

    21:48-21:52

But let's dispel the notion that the cross is all about us.

    21:53-21:56

It's about glorifying God. That's what the cross is about.

    21:56-22:01

We're just the beneficiaries of the work of the cross.

    22:04-22:08

So that's not really true, so we're not really going to see it here.

    22:09-22:11

    Because we want doctrinal accuracy.

    22:12-22:15

The other thing about Worship of Harvest is we want it to be contemporary without compromise.

    22:17-22:24

We want to be contemporary. We want to worship the Lord right now where He has us, at the times that He has us.

    22:24-22:26

    Contemporary, but without compromising.

    22:28-22:31

So if you liked that song earlier, you should be right around.

    22:31-22:37

If you liked that song, and you're kind of hoping we do that, I'm sorry.

    22:38-22:39

We're not going to do that song.

    22:41-22:47

If you want to try to connect with Samuel and have him do that for you, have him do a little private thing, I'm just not going to do it.

    22:48-22:52

So we're not doing that Psalm. So you worship my Psalm.

    22:52-22:54

    Secondly, you worship by witnessing.

    22:56-23:01

You worship by witnessing. See, some people would leave worship just to music.

    23:01-23:05

This is our worship time when we come together and sing. And that's it.

    23:05-23:11

incorrect, actually biblically with the life of Christ in us, everything we do is an act of worship.

    23:12-23:13

    Everything we do.

    23:13-23:18

And one of the things the Bible specifically points out here, look at verses 2 and 3.

    23:20-23:29

"Tell of his salvation from day to day, declare his glory above the nations." One of the ways that you worship the Lord is by witnessing to people.

    23:30-23:39

Just by saying that with somebody and saying, "Do you know the difference that Jesus Christ has made in my life?" Do you know the story of the cross? Do you know about Jesus?

    23:40-23:48

Do you know the Bible says that while we were yet sinners, Jesus died for us, and He rose from the dead, giving us the promise of eternal life?

    23:48-23:51

Do you know that story? What have you done with Jesus?

    23:51-23:57

When you do that, that's an act of worship. Witnessing is an act of worship.

    23:59-24:02

There's a lot more I want to say about that, but that's pillar number 4.

    24:03-24:05

So, we'll talk about that in a couple of weeks.

    24:06-24:19

And then verse 8, "You worship by giving." Look down at verse 8, it says, "Bring an offering." You come into his courts, and obviously in the Old Testament economy, bringing your offering meant bringing your animal to sacrifice.

    24:20-24:21

    We don't sacrifice animals.

    24:23-24:26

Why? Because the Bible says Jesus Christ would be laid down in his life.

    24:26-24:29

It was a once and for all offering.

    24:30-24:38

But the idea of coming to God without anything in your hands as an offering, it was inconceivable.

    24:39-24:42

Say, we're going to present an offering unto the Lord.

    24:44-24:46

This is where my wife always keeps me straight.

    24:47-24:51

Anytime somebody will invite us over, I'm just like, yeah, we'll be there.

    24:51-24:55

And then we get off the phone, and everyone's like, yeah, what are we supposed to bring?

    24:56-24:58

Like, they didn't say to bring anything.

    24:59-25:01

And I was like, of course they weren't going to say to bring something!

    25:03-25:04

I just don't think about that.

    25:05-25:08

Call me inconsiderate, but I just don't think about that.

    25:08-25:15

I'm just like, "No, they brought us over to their house." And I was like, "Yeah, we gotta bring something." You see, we're coming into the presence of the Lord.

    25:15-25:16

    We're bringing an offering.

    25:19-25:23

How much of the money in your wallet or purse is God's?

    25:25-25:28

    Like 10% actually no it's 100%.

    25:28-25:30

The earth is the Lord, the fullness therein.

    25:31-25:31

    It's all from God.

    25:32-25:38

And what we give back, we're just giving God back a portion of what He gave to us.

    25:38-25:41

It's coming to God, this is what I have in my hand.

    25:41-25:43

Bring an offering and come and do some works.

    25:43-25:45

I'm bringing this to you God again.

    25:45-25:46

    It's not...

    25:49-25:51

It's not to atone for our sins.

    25:53-25:55

I have so much more to say about that.

    25:57-25:58

    You worship by giving.

    26:01-26:07

So, you worship by song, you worship by witnessing, and you worship by giving.

    26:09-26:14

Before we move on from there, I want you to see that it isn't pick one.

    26:15-26:31

It isn't like God says, "Okay, here's three ways you can worship me, you can pick one." It's not like that. See, these are all aspects of living a life of worship. They're all aspects of that.

    26:32-26:34

You know, sort of like a baseball game.

    26:38-26:42

I know this... I grew up in a series. I mean, this is a tough time to talk about baseball.

    26:43-27:01

And, um, but if you've watched a good baseball team, maybe on the TV or something, not locally, But if I said, "What is baseball?" Somebody might say, "Well, baseball is a guy standing up with a bat, taking a swing at a ball." Is that baseball?

    27:02-27:03

    That's part of it.

    27:04-27:06

No, no, no, baseball is the guy pitching.

    27:06-27:10

Baseball is the guy, you know, he throws the ball 100 miles an hour.

    27:10-27:11

    Well, that's part of it.

    27:12-27:15

No, no, no, baseball is the feeling, you know, when the ball is in play.

    27:15-27:19

That's part of it. You see, it takes all of those things to make a baseball game, right?

    27:19-27:25

And it's the same with worship. All these things that the Bible is talking about here, these are all elements of the life of worship.

    27:27-27:35

A worshiper lifts up your voice to the Lord in song. A worshiper comes before the Lord with an offering.

    27:36-27:39

A worshiper tells others of his salvation.

    27:42-27:52

God is seeking worshippers. He's not seeking people who sing, or people who offer a tip, or people who worship occasionally.

    27:54-27:56

    The Father is seeking worshippers.

    27:58-28:08

So that's what worship looks like out here. He's just saying, "Here's some of the ways that we worship the Lord." But I want to close our time talking about what worship looks like in here.

    28:10-28:15

Because the truth is, we can do these other things in the flesh.

    28:18-28:21

We can externally fulfill these other things.

    28:25-28:29

I know the message of salvation. I can kind of sing. I have some money to give.

    28:30-28:31

    We can externally do that.

    28:33-28:37

The Father is not looking through the externals, He is looking in here.

    28:41-28:44

And three things I want to share with you about that.

    28:44-29:10

First of all, getting back to verse 1, it says, "Now sing to the Lord a new song." "Sing to the Lord a new song." So, everyone, you're outlined. The first thing is, "Up with fresh, down with leftovers." "Up with fresh, down with leftovers." You know this is the only song commanded in Scripture, is to sing a new song. Did you know that?

    29:14-29:17

Our worship must be an expression of faith from us.

    29:20-29:26

I've been preaching long enough to know that people hear, that people think they hear what they want to think they hear sometimes.

    29:27-29:43

And somebody's going to leave you here saying, "Pastor Jeff hates hymns. I love hymns." "Aaron, can I get a testimony? Do I love hymns?" I listen to hymns all the time. All the time. I'll show you my iPod. I love hymns.

    29:44-29:50

But you know, the Lord has commanded us to bring a fresh expression of faith.

    29:50-29:51

    Sing a new song.

    29:52-29:55

I've never met Charles Boston, but I'm sure he was a great guy.

    29:56-30:01

But just singing about his experience with God isn't us singing a new song.

    30:03-30:12

That's why, you know, very early on when I met Sam, he said, "You know, I've been kind of working on writing some of my own stuff." I'm like, praise the Lord, we're gonna be singing.

    30:13-30:14

    He was like, what?

    30:14-30:14

    We're gonna be singing.

    30:14-30:19

Someday we're gonna be coming to church and we're gonna be singing a Sammy Coop original.

    30:20-30:21

I am so excited for that.

    30:22-30:25

Because it's a fresh expression of faith.

    30:25-30:27

This is something God is doing in our God.

    30:28-30:29

And God is doing it through us.

    30:29-30:31

    It's singing a new song.

    30:33-30:35

See, is God doing something in your life right now?

    30:35-30:37

Do you have something to sing about right now?

    30:40-30:54

Now I sit down with leftovers. Listen, leftovers can be good. Frozen, can be good, all that stuff can be good, but nothing beats French, right? Is that true? Nothing beats French.

    30:55-31:16

And I believe that's true in worship. That's why he says, "Sing a new song to the Lord." The reason I'm throwing this in here is sadly, too many people go to church to criticize instead of to worship.

    31:18-31:31

There are going to be some people leave today saying, "Aw man, I liked it better when it was just Sam and Laura out there." You remember the good old days last week when it was just Sam and Laura and that was worship?

    31:33-31:38

And some people are going to say, "Well, it's about time we had a massacre." And that driver sure was a handsome guy.

    31:38-31:41

It's about time that they got some more people.

    31:42-31:44

Listen, criticism is not a spiritual gift.

    31:45-31:45

    Not on the list.

    31:46-31:47

    Nowhere, anywhere on the list.

    31:49-31:51

Did you come to criticize or did you come to worship?

    31:52-31:54

So how should I really evaluate a worship service?

    31:55-31:57

What you need to ask yourself, was it spirit and truth?

    31:57-32:00

That was sort of Jesus' two check marks for worship.

    32:01-32:03

Worship in spirit and worship in truth.

    32:05-32:06

    Were the lyrics biblical?

    32:06-32:08

Did the lyrics reflect the heart of God?

    32:10-32:12

The heart of the true worshiper of God?

    32:12-32:14

Was there emotion involved in my worship?

    32:17-32:21

See, much of the evaluation for worship shouldn't even come from what happens up on the stage.

    32:21-32:24

Much of your evaluation for worship needs to come in here.

    32:25-32:26

    Was I ready for worship?

    32:29-32:31

Did you ever come to church just completely not ready for worship?

    32:32-32:33

I'm gonna talk about that as we close.

    32:34-32:35

try to help you with that.

    32:38-32:40

So up with fresh, down with leftovers.

    32:40-32:41

    I like leftovers.

    32:44-32:45

    But nothing beats fresh.

    32:46-32:52

The Lord says, "Sing a new song." So number two, up with thankful, down with forgetful.

    32:54-32:56

Up with thankful, down with forgetful.

    32:58-33:08

Did you know that our faith in God is directly correlated to how thankful you are to God.

    33:09-33:09

I'm going to say that again.

    33:10-33:14

Your faith in God is a direct correlation with how thankful you are to God.

    33:15-33:17

That wasn't something I made up.

    33:17-33:19

You can read about that in Romans chapter 1.

    33:20-33:23

It talks about people who have walked away from the Lord.

    33:24-33:28

Though God's truth has been made evident to them, they deny it.

    33:28-33:29

    They suppress the truth.

    33:31-33:36

One of the key ingredients of that passage is, "They were not thankful." They weren't thankful.

    33:37-33:39

God has lavishly poured out His grace and...

    33:41-33:41

    Not thankful.

    33:42-33:44

Well, up with thankful, down with forgetful.

    33:44-33:45

    Look at verse 3.

    33:46-34:00

He says, "Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples." Declaring God's works means I'm looking back at how God has shown up and I am so thankful for what God is doing.

    34:02-34:04

That has to be part of your worship.

    34:06-34:07

Sometimes that's why we tune out in worship.

    34:08-34:09

We're not thinking about what God's doing.

    34:10-34:17

We're thinking about, you know, how are the steelers going to do this afternoon, or I'm sure hungry.

    34:18-34:23

Ever since Jeff started talking about leftovers, I'm really thinking, "What is leftover in our fridge?" And we're just kind of tuning out.

    34:26-34:28

Let me show you something I brought here.

    34:30-34:39

My wife calls this our "blessings box." I call it the "thank you God box" because for some reason I think that sounds more masculine, but it's the same.

    34:40-34:56

What we do is every time God shows up, in a really mighty tangible way, we just take out a note card and we write it down with the date and we stick it in.

    34:57-35:04

And our plan is on Thanksgiving to take them out and say, "Here's the way the Lord has shown up in the past year.

    35:04-35:43

Here's some things to be thankful about." I'm not going to 11th, we didn't have any of this.

    35:44-35:45

One thing that was like, more keyboard.

    35:45-35:48

All the AB stuff, the signage, we had nothing.

    35:50-35:55

We were told that we needed about $80,000 said and done to get all the things that we needed.

    35:56-35:58

Guess how much money we had?

    35:58-36:03

Not 80,000. Actually, we were at a leader team meeting, Sammy was the new kid on the block.

    36:04-36:05

    Jordan, I believe it was.

    36:05-36:33

But, um, we were, our group was kind of sitting around and going, "Well, you know, we need this, we're hoping to launch, you know." And I asked our financial assistant, "How much money do we have right now?" She said, "We have about $15,000." And, Sarah just completely couldn't hold himself back. As soon as she said it, he was like, "Sweet!" And you know, that lit a fire in our group.

    36:35-36:41

Because from that point on, we were like, "Yeah, you know what? That is sweet." We've been sitting around the last couple weeks, bellyaching about what we don't have.

    36:41-36:43

Why don't we thank God for what we do have?

    36:46-36:49

And I believe that was a huge catalyst for our group.

    36:50-36:53

Because, like I said, September 11th, nada.

    36:55-36:59

And in just a couple of days, the Lord provided everything that we needed.

    37:00-37:02

For the funds to purchase, and it was on order.

    37:03-37:05

But everything came within a matter of a couple of days.

    37:07-37:09

Do you think there's a card in this box addressing that?

    37:10-37:12

    Yeah, there is.

    37:13-37:26

And sometimes if you're really interested, I have no problem sitting down with you and going through line by line every card in that box saying, "Here's how the Lord has shown in our life that we are so thankful." Mary and I are so thankful for our church.

    37:27-37:29

Our DOT is so thankful for our Doors of God.

    37:31-37:40

So often we say, "I need, I need, I need, I need God, I need God, I need God, I need God, I need..." How much of your prayer time is God thanking you?

    37:42-37:45

Thank you for what you've done. Thank you.

    37:49-37:51

So up with thankful, now with forgetful.

    37:52-37:54

    Remember his marvelous works.

    37:58-38:00

How does worship look in here?

    38:00-38:07

The last thing is "up with reverent, down with familiar." Up with reverent, down with familiar.

    38:07-38:13

We get so used to the concept of God's nearness that we sometimes lose the awesome factor.

    38:14-38:15

    And look at verse 9.

    38:16-38:19

It says, "Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

    38:19-38:28

"tremble before him all the earth." Now, is it true that Jesus called his friend, yes.

    38:28-38:30

Is it true that God is near?

    38:31-38:34

And the Bible does use some terms like Abraham was called a friend of God.

    38:34-38:35

    Those things are all true.

    38:38-38:42

However, I think my Lord's Church has lost the awesome factor of God.

    38:43-38:44

    The reverence for God.

    38:45-38:49

The "you are holy and awesome and sovereign" aspect of God, we've lost that.

    38:51-39:01

And you're thinking, "Yeah, it's those newfangled choruses you do that just kind of reduce God." You know, I thought about that, and that's really not that often you do.

    39:04-39:15

Actually, you know, I grew up singing songs like "Put your hand in the hand of the man who steals the water." Remember that song?

    39:16-39:22

Me and Jesus are just walking along holding hands, hanging out, my frat buddy.

    39:25-39:28

Or, if I've offended you yet, this is it.

    39:28-39:31

This is like, everybody would be offended by this one.

    39:32-39:35

But we used to do services at the Senior Citizens Hub.

    39:35-39:39

And Brooke smiled, she knows what I'm gonna say.

    39:39-39:41

Her grandmother actually played the piano.

    39:42-39:45

And the favorite hymn every time in the garden.

    39:46-39:47

    You know that hymn?

    39:48-39:55

Oh, Pastor Jack, you're not gonna bash me, or the loving hymn, timeless treasure, whatever you wanna call it.

    39:56-39:58

But you realize that hymn has like no theological content.

    39:59-40:09

It's like, the hymn's basically like, you went to a garden, it's pretty, then Jesus showed up, The birds stopped singing because Jesus was there.

    40:10-40:12

And we just kind of hung out for a while in this garden.

    40:14-40:14

    Amen.

    40:15-40:20

And it's like, that image is just like, it's pretty, but it's not really...

    40:20-40:23

The thing that concerns me is just the familiarity.

    40:25-40:28

Do you know about Jesus was on the earth and his best friend was John?

    40:29-40:33

The disciple whom Jesus loved, he refers to himself in the gospel of John.

    40:33-40:36

The one who was leaning on Jesus during the Last Supper.

    40:38-40:44

The one that Jesus said, "Take care of my mother." That John? You know the guy I'm talking about?

    40:45-40:53

Well, when Jesus showed up to John in Revelation chapter 1, the Bible says John fell like a dead man.

    40:54-41:00

Terrified at the awesome glory of the glorified Jesus Christ.

    41:01-41:21

And I'm thinking to myself, if Jesus' earthly best friend, so to speak, the guy that was probably closer to Jesus than anybody, if he sees Jesus and falls down, then who am I to sing silly songs about walking up and down the beach with Jesus?

    41:24-41:29

See, the psalmist says, "Tremble before Him." I think there needs to be a reverence to God.

    41:29-41:45

"God, you are awesome, and you are holy, and if you weren't so merciful, God, I would be nothing." Verse 8 says, "Describe your Lord in glory, doing His name." Do you know why heaven is forever? Because we're never going to get there.

    41:46-41:49

As far as fulfilling this debt.

    41:50-41:50

    You see what I mean?

    41:51-42:04

If you start worshipping the Lord from now until the rest of eternity, you're never going to get to the point where you're like, "Okay, Doug, I think we glorified God enough, don't you?" And the answer is no, he is so awesome.

    42:04-42:05

    That's why heaven is eternal.

    42:06-42:08

Because that debt will never get filled up.

    42:10-42:11

It will never get filled up.

    42:12-42:15

So as I close, I'll put Reverend Donald familiar.

    42:16-42:18

I just wanna leave you with, you jot these things down.

    42:19-42:20

How can I ramp up for something?

    42:21-42:23

You're like, "I hear what you're saying, Jeff, "but I'll be honest with you.

    42:24-42:34

"By the time I get, you know, Finding my kids shoes, and oh I forgot the dog, put him in, and you know, all we had to stuff for gas, and my wife really got no fun.

    42:34-42:39

By the time we get the door on Sunday, it's just like worship is like, it's hard to get into.

    42:43-42:45

And y'all seem pretty serious about worship.

    42:46-42:47

So how can I ramp up for Sunday?

    42:48-42:51

I'll jot these ones down. The first thing is obedience to the Lord.

    42:53-43:03

What I mean is in John 14, 15, Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." And I just want to encourage us all to do a check on that.

    43:03-43:11

Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." That's an objective test.

    43:11-43:13

How do you know that you love Jesus Christ?

    43:13-43:15

Well, look at your life. Is my life reflected?

    43:16-43:18

Do I see Jesus alive in my life?

    43:20-43:27

And if you have some areas in your life that you're not being obedient, sometimes that's why it's hard to worship.

    43:31-43:35

Or saying it this way, does what you sing match what you do?

    43:37-43:39

Does what you sing match what you do?

    43:39-43:42

Can you come and sing "I Surrender All"?

    43:42-43:44

I don't really want to surrender everything.

    43:46-43:48

That needs to be the first place you start.

    43:48-43:51

Secondly, as we're talking about thankfulness, you're going to be deliberate about that.

    43:52-44:00

You're getting up saying, "I'm just so thankful that you've given me the opportunity to go to church." We're so thankful that we're able to rent this facility.

    44:01-44:05

We have a place where we can come and worship together.

    44:06-44:08

A couple of other things, help you ramp up your Sunday.

    44:10-44:12

Drop this down, a Psalm a day.

    44:14-44:16

Make it a practice to just read a psalm every day.

    44:18-44:25

Read a psalm and part of your assignment is look for a concept of God's character and just really meditate on it.

    44:27-44:32

What does this psalm say about God and how can I kind of take that and chew on it and think about it?

    44:32-44:35

How has God revealed himself to me in that way?

    44:35-44:36

    A psalm a day.

    44:40-44:42

I also encourage you to worship on your own.

    44:44-44:51

When you go to the gym, in your house, what music are you listening to?

    44:51-44:58

You see, it's hard if you're listening to Megadeth six days a week, and then you show up here and all of a sudden we're going to sing about Jesus.

    44:59-45:01

That's kind of a tough transition, don't you think?

    45:01-45:11

But if your week is already saturated with praise unto Him, it's exciting to come in and have other people join up with you.

    45:15-45:17

    Specifically, getting to church.

    45:17-45:19

I encourage you to listen to Worship in Your Car on the way to church.

    45:21-45:22

    Put that praise CD on.

    45:30-45:33

While we're worshipping in church, focus on the attribute of God.

    45:33-45:34

Just break down those God's attributes.

    45:35-45:38

In church worship, what attribute of God is being celebrated?

    45:40-45:42

And again, asking how have I experienced that?

    45:42-45:54

I know like, that's like today, Paul Samuel, I grew up here, we're singing "Blessed be your name." I was thinking about, you know, we've gone through some hard times as a family.

    45:56-45:58

To say, God has been so good to us.

    45:58-46:03

And yeah, there have been hard times, but we are committed to praising Him no matter what.

    46:04-46:08

And then to come and to think about that while singing that song, that's worship.

    46:12-46:15

How have I experienced this in my own life?

    46:18-46:22

Again, the Bible says that God is seeking worshipers.

    46:24-46:25

as he unified it all together.

    46:27-46:28

    Let's give our God's forgiveness.

    46:36-46:40

Our Father, we thank you for the opportunity to worship you.

    46:47-46:48

    Father, forgive us.

    46:50-46:56

for coming and thinking about such trivial and temporal things instead of worshipping you.

    46:58-47:02

Forgive us, Father, for the times that we insist on our preferences.

    47:09-47:10

    So much of worship is...

    47:13-47:15

it's just about who you are.

    47:15-47:17

It's not even about the instruments.

    47:17-47:19

It's not even about the style.

    47:22-47:24

    It's ascribing worth to you.

    47:25-47:28

All glory and honor and praise and strength.

    47:30-47:33

Father, your word tells us that you are seeking worshippers.

    47:40-47:41

And I pray for this church.

    47:43-47:46

That we're not a group that just sings.

    47:46-47:49

We're not just a group that has excellent positions.

    47:51-47:54

    We're a group that worships.

    47:58-48:16

Father, we thank you for your nearness, but I pray at the same time that we would never lose our sense of wonder, our sense of your awesomeness, our sense of how majestic you are.

  • 00:00-00:07

We are only a week too, but I thought it'd be good if I confess something to you.

    00:08-00:12

I've opened myself up a little bit. We do believe in a culture of transparency.

    00:16-00:24

I love commercials, but not like all commercials. Let me clarify this because I only love certain types of commercials.

    00:24-00:27

like insurance commercials, I really don't care for any of that.

    00:27-00:32

But the commercials that I like are for those things that I didn't know that I needed.

    00:32-00:34

    You know those commercials?

    00:34-00:36

Things that I didn't know that I needed.

    00:36-00:40

And here's what I like about those commercials, and some of you are totally going to get this.

    00:40-00:46

Like, "Oh, I know exactly what he's talking about. The black and white scenes in those commercials." You know what I'm talking about?

    00:47-00:52

Where you hear the guy going, "Oh, no!" And here's, like, for example, one of my favorites.

    00:54-00:56

You all know what this is, right?

    00:58-00:59

    The Snuggie!

    00:59-01:00

Oh, come on, some of you are like, what is it?

    01:00-01:02

    I've never, the Snuggie!

    01:03-01:04

Come on, you've seen the Snuggie, right?

    01:05-01:11

What I love about that is you have a commercial where the person is trying to have a blanket on and read the newspaper.

    01:11-01:12

    Oh, no!

    01:13-01:13

    Whoa!

    01:15-01:17

You know, call NASA, we have a problem.

    01:19-01:28

And, well, the Snuggie is basically, well, it's called the blanket that has sleeves, but it's basically a backwards robe.

    01:30-01:43

But I like this one because it comes with the book light that they have on the commercial that you see the person actually sitting and reading with their Snuggie on, with their book light in a completely lit room.

    01:44-01:46

And that always just cracked me up.

    01:47-01:52

This was something, when I saw that, I didn't even know that I needed this.

    01:53-01:55

And now, I don't think I can live without one.

    01:56-01:58

But I'm gonna live without this one here.

    01:59-02:00

    Here, you can have that.

    02:00-02:02

Now, if you were gifted, don't tell me.

    02:03-02:08

So, we have the Snuggie, well, it didn't stop there.

    02:11-02:15

Because we also have the Snuggie for dogs.

    02:16-02:20

Not only did I not know that I needed one, I didn't know that my dog needed one.

    02:21-02:23

This is a Snuggie for dogs.

    02:25-02:27

Did you know they made these things?

    02:28-02:29

    Okay, some of you did.

    02:30-02:30

    All right.

    02:31-02:33

Anybody here have a medium-sized dog?

    02:33-02:34

    All right, here.

    02:35-02:37

This would never fit my dog.

    02:39-02:39

    You're welcome.

    02:40-02:42

I know that was not gonna be regifted.

    02:43-02:45

    Okay, so another thing.

    02:45-02:46

    I just have one more.

    02:46-02:54

These things, I, um, what's the mall on 28th, the big deal where they put it?

    02:55-02:57

They have the As Seen on TV store.

    02:57-02:58

    Pittsburgh Mills.

    02:58-03:00

Pittsburgh Mills, thank you, thank you.

    03:01-03:03

They have a whole store dedicated to As Seen on TV.

    03:04-03:14

And when my wife and I first went there, I just walked in and I was just like, oh, it's hard to believe heaven's gonna be better than this.

    03:14-03:15

    I know it is.

    03:16-03:17

    Wow, they had everything there.

    03:18-03:19

    Well, here's another thing.

    03:20-03:21

    How about the pocket chair?

    03:22-03:23

Did you see the pocket chair?

    03:24-03:29

This is the amazing chair that fits in your pocket.

    03:32-03:33

    Hence the name, I suppose.

    03:35-03:38

But it's the pocket chair, it's ultra strong.

    03:39-03:42

    Holds up to 250 pounds.

    03:45-03:47

So I didn't take it out and try it.

    03:50-03:51

    That's why you're playing.

    03:51-03:52

    Who wants a pocket chair?

    03:53-03:55

All right, let me know how this works, okay?

    03:56-04:06

Now those things only have little commercials, but you have the big infomercials that are like a half hour long because they need more time to explain those things.

    04:07-04:11

The Snuggie, you don't really need a half hour infomercial for the Snuggie, though I would watch it.

    04:13-04:21

But, I love the intromertials. This is more of a guilty pleasure. I don't watch them anymore. I don't even know what the new ones are.

    04:21-04:26

But going back quite a few years, there were things like the Magic Bullet. Have you ever seen the Magic Bullet?

    04:28-04:34

And, oh, they can just do anything with the Magic Bullet. And Laura told me it's no good, right? Magic Bullet thumbs down.

    04:35-04:39

You can't make hummus with the Magic Bullet. So, alright, it's junk.

    04:39-05:07

And I like the ones you see the one with the knives or you have the little Italian chef and he was just cutting everything he's cutting the tomatoes and I was cutting cans and quarters and and I Love those things. I just love those commercials Okay, you have joy pleasures too, but that was always one of mine But some of the claims that they make on some of these were pretty outrageous outrageous.

    05:10-05:16

That's why you see on several news programs, they would have a segment called, you know, know what it is?

    05:17-05:20

"Does it really work?" You ever see those news segments?

    05:21-05:44

And those to me were even more interesting than the infomercials because you just have like Joe or Jane Average, like, "I bought one of these, I'm taking it out of the box, and I'm going to see if it actually works." "Does it really work?" Or, you know, this magic bullet thing claims it's going to do all this, and the Pocoyo Pocket Fisherman, and what about the Shake Weights?

    05:45-05:49

You know, that guy shaking the Shake Weight looks like Hercules.

    05:49-05:58

I'm like, "Wow, you might actually grab this thing and I'll look like that guy?" Well, like, Jim Hansen, a lot of oil and stuff, I guess.

    05:59-06:02

    But does it really work?

    06:02-06:10

And I was actually looking some of these things up online, and sadly what they found out in a lot of these things is what Laura had told me.

    06:11-06:16

Huge claims are made about these products. A lot of them do not work.

    06:17-06:26

And that's why I was not surprised when I went to the Dollar Tree yesterday and saw a lot of these things actually on the shelf at the Dollar Tree.

    06:26-06:28

and they cost a dollar as seen on TV.

    06:29-06:35

And I'm thinking, I'm totally going to get ripped off if I buy something for a dollar here.

    06:38-06:45

So all I have to say is, look on your outline if you have it in the back of your bulletin.

    06:47-06:54

These things make tremendous claims that many of them don't follow through.

    06:55-06:57

I want you to listen to a claim that God makes.

    06:57-06:59

    Okay? Listen to this claim.

    07:01-07:03

    Isaiah 55, verses 10 and 11.

    07:04-07:26

"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth.

    07:27-07:39

It shall not return to me empty, listen to this, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

    07:40-07:42

Do you see what this claim is that God is making?

    07:43-07:50

God is saying that when my word goes forth, It always accomplishes the purpose for which I'm sending it.

    07:51-07:52

    That's a claim.

    07:54-07:57

The Bible works for some people, but not for others.

    07:57-07:59

    That's not what God said.

    08:02-08:07

Well, you know, I went to church today and I heard the Bible, but I'm not sure it did me any good.

    08:07-08:08

    That's not what God said.

    08:10-08:12

He says when His Word goes out...

    08:14-08:15

    What's he batting at?

    08:15-08:17

    What's his batting at?

    08:17-08:18

    Before the playoffs, right?

    08:19-08:20

    He's batting a thousand.

    08:20-08:27

God says, "My word always accomplishes the purpose for which I send it out." Every time it's not in question.

    08:28-08:29

    God's word goes out?

    08:30-08:32

Like, "God, you work it?" The answer is yes.

    08:33-08:34

    Stupid me sometimes, I pray.

    08:35-08:42

"God, I just pray that your word would be worked powerfully." And I don't think it's like an evil prayer, but God's already told me that it is.

    08:42-08:54

God's like, "My work, when it goes forth, is going to accomplish the thing that I purpose." So we're going to look today at our first pillar of our Bible chapter.

    08:55-09:02

Our first pillar, as our pastor Jamie said in the video, is proclaiming the authority of God's work without apology.

    09:04-09:09

Why is that? Number one, well, God's word accomplishes God's purposes. I want to hear you say that.

    09:09-09:11

    God's Word accomplishes God's purposes.

    09:12-09:12

    Let me hear you.

    09:13-09:15

    God's Word accomplishes God's purposes.

    09:16-09:17

Okay, we're going to take another run at that.

    09:18-09:19

And I want you to say it like God would say it.

    09:20-09:22

    God's Word accomplishes God's purposes.

    09:27-09:28

Alright, some of you are too busy.

    09:29-09:29

    Well, let's go.

    09:31-09:37

We preach from the Bible because God says that's what He uses.

    09:38-10:00

That's why when you come here on a Sunday, or you go to any of these 77 Harvest Bible Chapels, somebody's going to stand up and say, "This is what the Bible says. Why do we do that?" Because God says, "This is what I'm using." You're like, "Don't all churches kind of do that? I mean, this isn't like a radical concept.

    10:00-10:16

Don't all churches, aren't they all like really fired up about the Bible like you and God seem to be?" Listen to this poll. I read this in Time Magazine a few years ago and I was completely floored.

    10:16-10:22

They took a poll of Protestant clergymen, this is sociologist Jeffrey Hayden.

    10:23-10:31

He surveyed about 10,000 clergymen and 7,441 replied.

    10:31-10:34

Okay, so it wasn't like we went up and down the street and asked a couple.

    10:34-10:37

    They talked to 7,441...

    10:38-10:40

    Understand this. Pastors.

    10:41-10:47

This isn't like Joe on the street, or I was sitting in the mall just bragging to people as they walked by.

    10:48-10:57

They asked pastors several questions concerning the Virgin, birth, the resurrection, etc.

    10:57-10:58

I want to focus on here.

    10:59-11:05

When they were asked if they believed that the scriptures were the inspired and inerrant word of God, that was the question.

    11:05-11:10

Do you believe this is God's book, that God wrote this?

    11:12-11:15

87% of Methodist pastors said no.

    11:17-11:20

87% of Methodist pastors said no.

    11:22-11:27

Episcopalians, of those who hold-- now, we're not throwing these denominations under the bus.

    11:27-11:31

a point, you can look this up yourself, I'm just telling you, here's where we're at.

    11:32-11:35

    Episcopalians, 95% said no.

    11:37-11:40

    82% of Presbyterians said no.

    11:41-11:44

67% of American Baptists said no.

    11:45-11:48

77% of American Lutherans said no.

    11:48-11:53

And 24% of the Missouri Synod Lutherans said no.

    11:54-12:09

These are pastors saying, "I don't believe this is God's will." We're going to hear a different story here, because we do believe that God wrote a book, and we're blessed to have it.

    12:09-12:18

I'd like to talk to some of these pastors, just sit down, and say, "Okay, so you don't believe the Bible is the Word of God, so what did you come up with? What did you do at your church?

    12:18-12:30

You found something better than the Bible, right? You found something better than the Bible." You know, here we have a book that was claimed to be written by the God of the universe, and always accomplishes His purpose.

    12:30-12:34

We're not going to find anything better than this.

    12:35-12:38

But it is a radical thing to consider that.

    12:38-12:40

I mean, think about it. The concept.

    12:41-12:50

We believe that God, who created the heavens and the earth in 6 24-hour days, also wrote a book.

    12:53-12:57

through about 40 people over a period of about 1,500 years.

    12:59-13:04

God spoke through these people and said, this is the book that I wrote.

    13:07-13:16

In fact, when you read this book, there are around 4,000 claims that the writers are making that this is the word of God.

    13:21-13:29

But you know the first question that we see in the Bible is still dangling out there today.

    13:30-13:32

You know what the first question is in the Bible?

    13:33-13:35

It's when the serpent, the Satan, appeared before Eve.

    13:37-13:40

He said, "Did God really say...

    13:43-13:48

Did God really say..." That's still the question the Satan's using.

    13:49-13:51

He's using that point because it's effective.

    13:52-13:53

And that's what's happening with pastors.

    13:54-13:55

    That's what's happening with Christians.

    13:56-14:01

All over the churches, people are saying, "Did God really say that?" And the Bible says this.

    14:01-14:05

"Did God really say that?" And it becomes a head issue.

    14:06-14:08

And I'm not really sure that one's inspired.

    14:08-14:10

I think maybe parts of it are.

    14:10-14:12

I'm not really sure about that.

    14:12-14:13

    It becomes a head issue.

    14:13-14:17

But let's be honest, sometimes, Christians, doesn't it also become a heart issue?

    14:17-14:22

When there's something that you know the Word of God has hidden you on it, you're like, "No, just...

    14:23-14:31

Is that really what it says?" Well, turn in your Bibles with me to 2 Timothy chapter 3.

    14:34-14:36

    2 Timothy chapter 3.

    14:38-14:40

    God's Word accomplishes God's purposes.

    14:41-14:43

We're going to look at just a few verses here.

    14:50-14:54

2 Timothy chapter 3. First of all, look at verse 16.

    14:56-15:06

It says, "All scripture is breathed out by God." So circle that word "all" in your Bible.

    15:08-15:11

Sort of like last week we talked about Jesus saying he had authority.

    15:11-15:13

What kind of authority did Jesus say he had?

    15:14-15:16

All authority in heaven and on earth.

    15:16-15:18

Here we see another "all" claim.

    15:19-15:21

This is what the Bible claims about itself.

    15:23-15:26

It says that all scripture is breathed out by God.

    15:29-15:32

    Some translations say "inspired".

    15:32-15:34

    All scripture is inspired.

    15:35-15:37

If you're taking notes, I want you to drop these things down.

    15:37-15:40

This is what inspired does not mean.

    15:41-15:44

When we talk about inspired, it does not mean this.

    15:44-15:47

First of all, it doesn't mean it's a high level of human achievement.

    15:48-15:58

It doesn't mean it's a high level of human achievement as if, "Wow, those guys that wrote that, they were having some good days." You can tell they were just in the zone.

    15:58-16:01

They were, "Wow, great job guys.

    16:01-16:03

    Great job. Fantastic.

    16:04-16:07

You guys really did a great job." That's not what inspired means.

    16:09-16:16

Secondly, inspired does not mean the concepts were inspired.

    16:18-16:20

The words were inspired. That's what some people teach.

    16:20-16:25

Well, the Bible's concepts are true, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the words are true.

    16:26-16:27

    I don't agree with that.

    16:28-16:31

You can't have concepts without words.

    16:31-16:41

And we believe in a God who is so powerful, He can create things by speaking them into existence, but He's not powerful enough to give us a book that says exactly what He wants us to say.

    16:41-16:42

    Really?

    16:43-16:44

That's the best we came up with?

    16:45-16:46

    Well, it's just the concept.

    16:46-16:48

    Like, for example, Genesis.

    16:50-16:54

We don't really know how the earth and God appeared, and it probably wasn't six 24-hour days.

    16:55-17:01

So, He was just giving us the concept that made me go, "That's not what your Bible says.

    17:01-17:05

The Bible says God created them to the earth in 6 24 hour days.

    17:05-17:06

Literally, that's what the Bible says.

    17:08-17:09

    It's not a God sentence.

    17:10-17:14

God says, "Yeah, I did it. Here's exactly how I did it." It's not a God sentence.

    17:15-17:16

    So let's lose that.

    17:19-17:23

Third thing, inspired is not mean it's just hard work.

    17:24-17:25

    Oh, so inspirational.

    17:27-17:31

Especially that 1 Corinthians 13 stuff.

    17:32-17:33

    So it's a mission.

    17:34-17:36

    That's not what inspired me.

    17:36-17:38

And yes, there are times the Bible gives us that.

    17:40-17:40

    I love that verse.

    17:40-17:41

I put that on my wall.

    17:43-17:49

That verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." You know, on my marker wire poster.

    17:51-17:53

But that verse has nothing to do with baseball.

    17:53-17:55

    But that's another subject.

    17:55-17:57

    But that's just inspiring.

    17:57-18:03

Sometimes the Bible does warm our hearts, but that's not what Paul is talking about here.

    18:05-18:09

And fourthly, number four, inspiring is not being hypocritical.

    18:10-18:12

And I've talked to some pastors that believe that.

    18:12-18:15

Like, yeah, some of the Bible is true, but there's some other parts that aren't.

    18:16-18:21

There's like filler. Like God's like, "Okay, here's my part. Now would you round it out?

    18:21-18:24

Okay, can you just come up with some stuff and just kind of round it out?

    18:26-18:32

It's not hitting this because what does your Bible say all scripture is breathed out by God what percent is that?

    18:33-18:51

No, no, no percent is all 100% it's all Breathed out by God the God through these people using their personalities in their context he Have them write down his word.

    18:53-18:55

And he's preserved his word to this day.

    18:56-18:57

    It's awesome.

    18:59-19:13

That's why if you look down at 2 Timothy 4, 2, Paul tells Timothy, "Preach the word." He says, "Timothy, preach the word." He doesn't say, "I charge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus to entertain people." He doesn't say that.

    19:15-19:16

    But to get people churched.

    19:16-19:21

He says, "Preach the Word." Timothy, get God's Word out.

    19:21-19:23

I love what Ken Shaw said in that video.

    19:24-19:25

You know, God's Word is like a lion.

    19:25-19:26

We don't need to defend it.

    19:26-19:30

We just need to open the cage and let it out, and it will take care of itself.

    19:31-19:36

That's why he says, "Preach the Word." Why?

    19:37-19:40

Because God's Word accomplishes God's purposes.

    19:41-19:43

So how does God use the Bible?

    19:43-19:44

I want to share with you this morning.

    19:46-19:48

We preach the word, but why?

    19:48-19:50

Well, God's word encompasses God's purposes.

    19:50-19:52

Your next question is, well, what are God's purposes?

    19:53-19:54

    Well, here they are.

    19:54-19:56

He just laid them all out for us.

    19:57-19:59

    Jump up to verse 14.

    19:59-20:02

We'll read it and then we'll go back to it and kind of break it down a little bit.

    20:03-20:07

"Father, as for you," He's talking to Timothy, he's the son of the gospel.

    20:07-20:49

"As for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have been equated with the sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus, all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be confident and equipped for every good work." So why do we preach the Bible?

    20:49-20:52

Number one, how is the Bible used?

    20:52-20:53

Well, first of all, for salvation.

    20:56-20:59

    God's Word leads us where?

    20:59-21:00

    It leads us to Him.

    21:01-21:02

God's Word leads us to Him.

    21:05-21:12

This is quite a claim to say, you know, this book is what God uses to alter eternity.

    21:13-21:17

People's souls are saved through what is written in this book.

    21:17-21:18

    That's quite a claim.

    21:18-21:24

Well, he told Timothy, these scriptures make you wise for salvation.

    21:25-21:26

    John 5, 24.

    21:27-21:34

Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me, That's eternal life.

    21:36-21:59

John 5.39 Jesus said, "Use your scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, and in this day that you are witness about me." Romans 10.17 "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." Now this letter and paper isn't the thing that saves you.

    22:00-22:05

It's the Word of God pointing the way to Jesus Christ.

    22:06-22:07

He is the One who saves.

    22:08-22:14

But we can't know God, and we can't know the work of Jesus Christ, and we can't know the work of the Holy Spirit apart from what?

    22:15-22:16

    Apart from His blood.

    22:17-22:20

And I can personally testify that's how I came to the Lord.

    22:20-22:27

It wasn't a slick evangelist, it wasn't some crusade, it wasn't persuasive words of wisdom.

    22:27-22:37

And it was somebody sitting down saying, "Read this. What does it say? What does it mean? How should you respond?" God's Word cut me to the heart.

    22:38-22:40

And it was the Word of God that led me to salvation.

    22:42-22:47

Which should not surprise me, because God says His Word accomplishes His purposes, right?

    22:49-22:54

So, this is important that we start it, because everything else that we're going to talk about...

    22:54-22:57

He says this is for the man of God, verse 17.

    22:57-22:58

The man of God being the covenant.

    22:59-23:03

Everything else we're going to see builds off of this.

    23:04-23:05

Let me pause here for a second.

    23:07-23:14

The first thing that God's word has to do in your life is bring you to salvation.

    23:18-23:21

Churching unchurched people does not do anyone any good.

    23:23-23:26

See, our goal is to not try to make people in church.

    23:26-23:28

That's not our goal we talked about last week.

    23:28-23:29

    We want to make disciples.

    23:29-23:38

We want, as the Holy Spirit is at work, followers of Jesus Christ, born again, as from death to life, as from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.

    23:39-23:40

    That's what we're going after.

    23:41-23:45

We're not trying to moralize immoral people.

    23:48-23:52

The first thing the scriptures have to do is bring you to the place of salvation.

    23:54-23:55

    Are you there?

    23:58-23:59

    Are you there?

    23:59-24:05

Are you checking out this church because there's a cool guy on the radio and we're kind of tied in with him?

    24:05-24:07

So this sounds like a cool place to hang out.

    24:08-24:09

    Are you saved?

    24:10-24:11

    That's step number one.

    24:12-24:13

    We're not starting a club.

    24:15-24:17

We want to reach out with the gospel.

    24:17-24:19

And that's where it has to start.

    24:19-24:20

    It has to start there.

    24:20-24:21

    are you saved?

    24:24-24:25

What does it mean to believe?

    24:27-24:29

Jesus said about believing in him, what does it mean to believe?

    24:29-24:32

Quickly, there's three levels of belief.

    24:33-24:40

The first level of belief is, you could say, is understanding the facts.

    24:42-24:48

Like when somebody gets up and says something, they're promoting some truth, hopefully.

    24:49-24:52

The first level of belief is do I understand what he's saying?

    24:53-24:54

    Do I understand that?

    24:55-24:56

That's the first level of belief.

    24:56-25:00

The second one is, do I agree with him?

    25:03-25:06

So you see, we get up and we say this is what the Bible says.

    25:06-25:07

You say, well, okay, I see what he's saying.

    25:08-25:09

The second is, do I agree with him?

    25:11-25:12

That's the second level of belief.

    25:13-25:17

And the third level of belief is when you put your light on it.

    25:18-25:29

To say, "I'm acting upon this." For the illustration I like to use, you know, "Where's the pocket chair at? Let's get that thing out." If I... It says that it holds a 250 pound person, it's stating a fact.

    25:29-25:40

I'd be like, "Okay, I understand what that's saying." The second question is, "Do I agree with that?" Well, the third level of believing, you'd have to do what?

    25:41-25:43

You'd have to take that chair out and actually sit on it.

    25:43-25:44

    That's what faith is.

    25:44-25:50

Meaning, I'm trusting that this is true and I'm basing my life on it.

    25:50-25:51

    That's what faith is.

    25:51-25:53

And that's what we do with the Word of God.

    25:53-26:00

This is what God said, that my life is going to be centered around a faith that believes God in His Word.

    26:01-26:07

If God is not who He says He is, if His Word does not do what He says it's going to do, I'm going to fall flat on my face.

    26:10-26:11

    That's faith.

    26:11-26:14

So salvation, first of all, God's worth leads to Him right there.

    26:16-26:21

Secondly, teaching God's worth lays the foundation of truth.

    26:24-26:28

Going back to verse 16, again, all scriptures breathed out by God.

    26:29-26:33

"Improfitable for teaching." What's the Bible good for?

    26:33-26:35

For the same person, the first thing is teaching.

    26:36-26:38

    Literally, that's doctrine.

    26:39-26:42

These are things we wouldn't know about God if we weren't as upset.

    26:44-26:45

The Bible is truth as God sees it.

    26:48-26:50

Who He is. Who we are.

    26:52-26:54

    Sin. Eternity.

    26:54-26:56

What is Heaven? What is Hell?

    26:56-26:57

What's our purpose in this life?

    26:59-27:01

This is truth as God sees it.

    27:04-27:08

And again, that's why salvation has to be first, because you can't really teach doctrine to a non-believer.

    27:09-27:14

The Bible says these things must be spiritually discerned. You can't do it apart from the work of the Holy Spirit, can you?

    27:19-27:22

The Bible is good for teaching, laying a foundation of truth.

    27:22-27:26

Remember last week we said that Jesus' last command was my first priority.

    27:26-27:33

Jesus said, "To teach them to observe all that I have commanded you." How are we going to teach people to do that?

    27:34-27:36

He's given it to us where? In His Word.

    27:37-27:39

People can't do what they don't know.

    27:43-27:48

God's Spirit in you always works with His Word.

    27:50-27:57

So the question I have for you is, have you allowed God's Word to lay that foundation of truth in your life?

    27:58-28:07

You know, Christians, have you come to that place where you've received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, but have you allowed God's Word to be the foundation of truth?

    28:11-28:17

I was on a panel discussion with a lot of area clergy people last year.

    28:19-28:28

And it was a panel discussion up at a high school, and the kids actually asked questions that we ought to answer from our own point of view, presenting our religious viewpoints, whatever.

    28:28-28:37

And one of the questions was, do you believe that God created in 6 24 hour days?

    28:40-28:47

Do you believe that when the Bible says there were 6 24 hour days, that's actually literally 24 hour days.

    28:48-28:52

So I actually have this Bible with me.

    28:54-28:58

And I'm like, "Oh, I'm so glad you asked that," and I took some notes.

    29:11-29:12

    That's resurrection.

    29:15-29:19

Anyway, I have some notes in here, one of these blank pages that you always wonder what you're supposed to do with.

    29:19-29:20

    Here we go.

    29:21-29:22

I'm not quite Genesis, imagine that.

    29:23-29:29

They said, "Well, do you believe that there are actually 24-hour days?" And I said, "Well, here's something I found out.

    29:29-29:34

The word 'day' in Hebrew is 'yom,' and it's used with a number or a numerical qualifier.

    29:35-29:42

In the Old Testament, the yom with a numerical qualifier, 359 times it's used.

    29:43-29:45

It always refers to a literal 24-hour day.

    29:45-29:57

When a word "yom" is used with the phrase "evening" or "morning," which is 23 times in the Old Testament, that's always a 24-hour day.

    29:59-30:06

The phrase "evening" and "morning" is used in the Old Testament without the word "yom," day 38 times, all 61 times, it refers to a 24-hour day.

    30:07-30:12

Exodus 20, verse 11, talking about the Sabbath, God, my God, here's the creation week.

    30:13-30:35

Israel here's your week just like five weeks six point twelve days So I shared that and I was just kind of like close the Bible and the discussion And then like the next pastor down like you believe that they're like no I really believe Genesis is just sort of like it just tells us a little story about how we got here But I don't think it's literally true. I'm like, where were you like a minute ago?

    30:35-30:47

I just covered this and then the next pastor now "Well, I'm kind of like this guy where I don't really think that there are 24 hour days that might be taking up billions of years." Who are we to not take God at His word?

    30:49-30:57

But you see, my point is, if the word of God is to lay a foundation of truth, that's where it has to start. It has to start there.

    30:58-31:07

It starts with, I don't want to offend scientists, so I'm going to try to kind of get their beliefs to incorrect.

    31:10-31:12

    That's the foundation of truth.

    31:13-31:16

So God's Word brings us to salvation.

    31:18-31:19

It leads us to Him teaching.

    31:20-31:25

Thirdly, God's Word exposes our errors.

    31:26-31:28

    God's Word exposes our errors.

    31:28-31:30

You see, the next thing is the problem of teaching.

    31:31-31:33

And here it is, for reproof.

    31:34-31:36

For reproof, literally, in the Greek, that's rebuke.

    31:37-31:44

That's confronting someone when they're misbehaving, so to speak.

    31:45-31:49

When you want to show them what you're doing is wrong.

    31:51-31:52

Well, God's Word exposes our errors.

    31:53-31:58

You see, it builds a foundation of truth, but it also tears down error.

    31:59-32:01

First of all, it rebukes false teaching.

    32:03-32:16

I had somebody tell me one time, when we were talking about different religions and beliefs and things like that, this lady said, "You know, you can't ever tell anybody that they're wrong. You can't do that." I said, "Yeah, you can. It's easy.

    32:16-32:24

When somebody makes a claim, contrary to the Word of God, you say, "That's incorrect, because the Bible says this." See, that wasn't hard.

    32:25-32:34

"Oh no, no, you can't tell people that!" Well, God says that's what He's in the business of doing, because this Word is profitable for reproof.

    32:34-32:35

    God's Word exposes our errors.

    32:37-32:39

So not only false teaching, but also false conduct.

    32:41-32:46

"I'm angry and bitter." And God's Word points that out.

    32:48-32:52

I'm lusting or I have an idol in my life. Something has taken priority in my life.

    32:52-32:54

But God's Word points those things out.

    32:55-33:01

It says, "Jeff, you're out of line here. You're out of line. This is wrong." That attitude was wrong.

    33:02-33:04

The way you talked to that person was wrong.

    33:05-33:06

    That's the reproof.

    33:08-33:17

You see, people that do actually want to hold on to their sin, they don't want to stick around a church like this very long.

    33:19-33:28

If you're trying to have, "I want to hold on to my sin, but God's going to just keep telling me what God says in His Word," you're not going to stick around.

    33:30-33:31

    Because it cuts.

    33:32-33:35

What's the Hebrew writer say? It's sharper than any what? Two-edged sword.

    33:36-33:38

That's what he's talking about. It cuts you.

    33:39-33:40

    It cuts.

    33:43-33:47

Hebrews 12 actually tells us that God has included us as sons.

    33:48-33:51

And the redeemed are going to want to accept the loving Father's review.

    33:51-33:54

Okay, it's like Dad coming home and saying, "Son, you're wrong.

    33:55-33:59

You're wrong." So God's Word exposes our errors.

    34:02-34:03

    Let's have a closing song.

    34:03-34:04

    No, not yet.

    34:04-34:05

Hang on because there's good news.

    34:06-34:08

God just doesn't come along and say, "You're wrong.

    34:09-34:10

Have a nice day." But look at the next thing.

    34:12-34:12

    So important.

    34:12-34:13

    For correction.

    34:14-34:15

    For correction.

    34:15-34:17

    God's Word changes our course.

    34:18-34:21

You see, this is the positive to the previous.

    34:21-34:22

    It corrects our error.

    34:23-34:25

    It corrects our conduct.

    34:25-34:28

The Greek word is, this is actually the only place in the New Testament that it's used.

    34:29-34:31

But it literally means to straighten up.

    34:32-34:33

Did your mom ever tell you that?

    34:33-34:34

    Hey, straighten up.

    34:35-34:36

Anybody have a mom tell them that?

    34:37-34:41

"No, not me Pastor Jeff, I was a perfect kid." Liar! Straighten up!

    34:42-34:44

My mom always told me that. Straighten up. Hey, straighten up.

    34:44-34:47

You're going to grandma's house, straighten up.

    34:47-34:49

    That's what this word means.

    34:50-34:53

That God doesn't just come along and tear you down.

    34:54-35:04

God says, "This is wrong, but here, this is right." straighten up and the tearing down is meant to bring you to that place.

    35:04-35:05

And you see, that's good news.

    35:06-35:09

That's good news because you can get back on track.

    35:10-35:23

Being in pastoral ministry for 14 years, I've met a lot of people, especially in prison ministry, I've met a lot of people that just feel like I've messed things up too bad.

    35:24-35:44

I would share the word with them and they would be like, "Great, I'm way beyond all that. I can't get back on track. That's wrong." God says, "Today is the day of salvation." And if you need to repent and come to the Lord, the Lord goes good for that.

    35:45-35:58

If you have backslidden or you haven't been growing or maybe as a Christian you've been caught up in sin Gosh, maybe God has like a second class level of Christianity for me for the rest of my life.

    35:59-35:59

    That's wrong.

    36:03-36:04

You can get back on track.

    36:06-36:15

I believed wrongly. God says, "Okay, here's the right way of thinking. Change your mind. Let's move forward." I've done the wrong thing.

    36:15-36:20

Repent. Make restitution when you need to. And let's move on. It's correction.

    36:22-36:24

The off track, the poor, the straight, and the young.

    36:27-36:32

And finally, number five, it's just right there in the text.

    36:34-36:35

    Training and Righteousness.

    36:37-36:40

Training and Righteousness, God's Word prepares us for work.

    36:42-36:46

The word training is actually an interesting word in the Greek.

    36:47-36:51

It comes from the same root where we get the word child in the Greek.

    36:52-36:57

And literally this training in righteousness is the same concept as training a child.

    36:59-37:04

It's about nurturing and raising and growing and bringing to maturity.

    37:05-37:06

    That's what this word means.

    37:07-37:08

    Just like a child.

    37:09-37:15

And there's good news in that because parents, you don't raise a child every day, do you?

    37:17-37:21

    It's steady, it's consistency, it's overtime.

    37:22-37:23

And we'll talk about that in a second.

    37:23-37:24

    But it's nurturing.

    37:26-37:34

You might be sitting here this morning saying, "Well, why don't I feel like I've grown?" I've really, you know, since I've come through Christ, I've just gone through this period where I don't feel like I've grown.

    37:34-37:49

1 Peter 2 says, "Does newborn baby desire the sincere milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby?" A baby wanting milk is a sign of life.

    37:50-37:52

    It's a sign of life, isn't it?

    37:52-37:55

When that baby wants to eat, it's a sign of life.

    37:56-38:05

Well, as a baby Christian, wanting God's Word is a sign of life.

    38:07-38:16

You see, this is where it gets tough for me because I was thinking this week, "Okay, what can I say to make them want to read the Bible more?" The truth is, there really isn't anything.

    38:17-38:18

I can tell you what the Bible does.

    38:19-38:26

Awesome, eternal things. It will change you from the inside out, and you will not ever regret doing what God has called you to do.

    38:26-38:30

But there's nothing that I can tell you that's going to make you want to read the Bible.

    38:31-38:33

That has to come from God's Spirit working with you.

    38:34-38:36

You have to be like that baby.

    38:36-38:43

We have two kids 15 months apart. When they were babies, we didn't have to convince them it was time to eat.

    38:43-38:52

"Come on Owen, it's well tried. Go like it, it'll make you grow." He was like, "I'm hungry, give me food, I'm eating." That was it.

    38:54-38:57

And as a baby Christian, you have that appetite in you.

    38:59-39:01

Living things get hungry, are you hungry?

    39:03-39:07

Well, maybe you're saying, "Well, where do I get started?" Well, again, good news.

    39:08-39:26

See back in verse 15, Paul tells Timothy, "You've been acquainted with the secret ratings for how long?" He says, "From childhood." There's a little word of encouragement in there for me because sometimes I read God's Word and I don't have everything figured out.

    39:26-39:27

    That's okay.

    39:30-39:32

Timothy didn't have everything figured out either.

    39:32-39:38

But what brought him to the place of maturity where he was, was he'd been at it for a while.

    39:39-39:41

    He'd been growing at this.

    39:41-39:50

And no matter where you are right now in your walk, no matter where you are right now in knowledge of God's Word, you can grow from the place where you are right now.

    39:50-39:51

    Do you know that?

    39:52-39:53

You can grow from where you are.

    39:55-39:57

Like, well, I'm not John MacArthur. None of us are.

    39:58-40:01

But we can grow from where we are right now.

    40:03-40:06

Alright? So where do I get started? Well, don't be intimidated.

    40:11-40:12

    It takes time.

    40:13-40:17

Next month we're going to be starting a series in the book of Colossians.

    40:18-40:20

You know a great place to get started? Read Colossians.

    40:20-40:24

It will probably take you 10 or 15 minutes to sit down and read the whole thing through.

    40:25-40:32

I encourage you, just even if you do it a couple times a day over the next week, just sit down and read Colossians through a couple times.

    40:33-40:40

And then maybe as we get closer to the series, maybe instead of reading the whole thing through, Maybe you're just going to focus on a passage at a time.

    40:40-40:44

You're going to slow down and read it and understand it.

    40:50-40:54

How much do you think you'll grow and go on forward with that series if you start right now?

    40:55-40:56

And we want to help you.

    40:56-40:57

Maybe you say, well, I don't really have a Bible.

    40:58-40:59

    I can read.

    40:59-41:03

I don't understand this, but out on the tables, out on the lawn, there's Bibles.

    41:04-41:04

    They're yours taken.

    41:04-41:06

    There's Bible reading reference sheets.

    41:06-41:07

you're gonna correct what you're reading.

    41:07-41:08

    Take 'em.

    41:10-41:11

If we run out, we'll get more.

    41:12-41:16

But get God's word in your head, get God's word in your head, and get it in your heart.

    41:16-41:17

    You've gotta get started.

    41:18-41:20

Here's what I did with my Bible.

    41:21-41:32

This is one that I actually, for my personal study, real complicated system I had, but when I read through, the first thing I'll do is underline I was talking about a person.

    41:32-41:35

I'll just underline that, 'cause when I get through the text, I'm like, "Are we talking about, oh, okay.

    41:36-41:39

this guy, and I'll start underlining some things.

    41:39-41:41

    Here's what he's doing.

    41:41-41:43

Or this is what the Bible says.

    41:43-41:44

    You know, here's the subject.

    41:44-41:46

What does it say about that subject?

    41:46-41:47

    Just start there.

    41:48-41:49

    What does it say?

    41:49-41:51

What does it say about that subject?

    41:51-41:53

And how should my life look differently?

    41:54-41:59

If I do what God seems to be communicating is the right thing to do in this passage.

    42:00-42:01

    Start there.

    42:03-42:04

    We want to help you.

    42:04-42:07

We're going to be starting small groups also in November.

    42:07-42:09

That's the perfect place to get started.

    42:10-42:12

Bill, I'm sorry, your email didn't get corrected.

    42:13-42:18

    It's DLIPPIN, D-L-I-P-P-N, department of physical nurse.org.

    42:19-42:21

Bill gets a shout out to me because it didn't get fixed.

    42:23-42:26

We're going to be starting small groups next month.

    42:26-42:34

That's the perfect place for you to grow your knowledge of God, or to sit down with other people like yourself and say, "Hey, let's look at God's word together.

    42:34-42:36

I want you to understand, how does this apply in your life?

    42:36-42:37

Well, here's how it's applied in mine.

    42:37-42:39

How do you see yourself in your life this week?

    42:40-42:41

    Let's get on it.

    42:44-42:46

You can actually look through my Bible.

    42:46-42:48

There's places in the margins where I just wrote a question mark.

    42:48-42:49

    You know what that means?

    42:49-42:52

I mean, I just read something and I have no idea what's going on in there.

    42:52-42:53

I'll just be honest with you.

    42:53-43:00

I'll read stuff, I'll be like, okay, not a clue, question mark, and that means I'll go back later and take some time to study that.

    43:03-43:04

    It's training.

    43:05-43:06

    It's training.

    43:06-43:07

    But not just training.

    43:07-43:08

    It's training in righteousness.

    43:08-43:12

You see, doctrine, we talked about earlier, that's the head stuff.

    43:12-43:14

    Training in righteousness, that's doing.

    43:15-43:16

    That's heart stuff.

    43:17-43:18

So why is God training us?

    43:19-43:20

    Verse 17.

    43:23-43:24

What are we being trained for?

    43:24-43:28

That the man of God may be competent and quick to do whatever he wills.

    43:32-43:33

This word "living" is a word that is used in the Hebrew language.

    43:33-43:36

literally mean confident, it means perfect.

    43:38-43:42

I guess in our vernacular we think of it confident as meaning good enough.

    43:42-43:43

    That's confident.

    43:43-43:44

    Can you, yeah, slightly.

    43:46-43:49

That's not what it means in the Greek, it means perfect.

    43:52-43:55

We lack nothing for the job that God has for us.

    43:57-43:59

That's good news for me, it's good news for you.

    44:01-44:05

To know that whatever God has you facing, He's already totally equipped you.

    44:05-44:05

    Parents?

    44:08-44:15

Parents, you sometimes feel like, this parent thing, how did I get signed up for this?

    44:15-44:19

I don't know if I can do this in a way God wants me to disciple in.

    44:19-44:21

God wants me to disciple in, 'cause how can I do that?

    44:22-44:22

    Here's your answer.

    44:22-44:24

    God says, "I've equipped you.

    44:26-44:32

"I've got everything you need to disciple your children "right here, get in it.

    44:33-44:34

    There's nothing lacking.

    44:34-44:37

It's not the Bible plus, you know, that Spock guy or whatever.

    44:37-44:41

Mario used to think it was like the guy from Star Trek or a book about raising children.

    44:41-44:42

    It's a different Spock.

    44:43-44:45

But it's not the Bible plus Spock.

    44:45-44:47

    It's the Bible plus what?

    44:47-44:47

    Tell me.

    44:48-44:49

    Nothing.

    44:49-44:50

    This completes you.

    44:51-44:53

The training you've got to have for it.

    44:55-44:55

    Students.

    44:57-44:57

    You know, it's hard.

    44:58-45:02

More and more, we're getting away from-- I talk to young people all the time.

    45:02-45:04

It's just so hard to be a Christian in school now.

    45:04-45:06

So my friends make fun of me.

    45:06-45:10

They say really nasty things, and they do nasty things.

    45:10-45:11

    It's hard.

    45:11-45:14

How can I face this trial that God has before me?

    45:15-45:19

God says, this will equip you for everything that I had before you.

    45:21-45:21

    Employee.

    45:25-45:26

Pastor Jeff, it's really rough for our work.

    45:30-45:34

I'm not always sure how to handle the godlessness where I work.

    45:35-45:37

God says, I got something right here that will put me where I work.

    45:38-45:39

    That's where I work.

    45:41-45:49

About church member, being part of a church plant, plenty of opportunity to get involved, whether it's through worship or through small groups.

    45:50-45:52

I don't know the first thing about running a small group.

    45:53-45:54

How am I going to know how to run a small group?

    45:55-45:56

Where are we going to get a cook for that?

    45:58-46:03

ago, God says, I've got something that will equip you for the work that I've called you to do.

    46:05-46:07

So did you see the flow of the text?

    46:09-46:13

The Bible leads you to Christ. It lays a foundation of truth.

    46:15-46:25

It shows us where we're wrong and corrects us, and then it trains us to live on a foundation of truth, complete for every work that God calls us to do.

    46:28-46:33

    God's work accomplishes God's purposes.

    46:35-46:40

That's why in Romans 5 chapter 3, number 1, what's this church about?

    46:42-46:45

We're about proclaiming the authority of God's word without apology.

    46:47-46:50

We're not sorry for anything that God said.

    46:54-47:01

God promised He will accomplish His work with His Word.

    47:04-47:09

If God's Word is good, then great things.

    47:11-47:20

Father in heaven, as we close out this time, we just want to thank you for your work.

    47:22-47:31

I suppose we could take a shot in the dark or guess as to who we think you might be if we didn't have your work.

    47:32-47:37

But we'd probably come up with all kinds of crazy things, which I guess is what happens to the people who are rejecting you.

    47:39-47:47

We thank you that you've given us very clearly this is who you are, this is what you're about, and this is what you call us to.

    47:49-47:53

We thank you for your word. Father, forgive us when we don't take your word as seriously as you do.

    47:56-47:59

Father, I thank you that your word corrects us.

    48:00-48:05

And even for those of us today who maybe got a little bit off track, you're calling us back to yourself.

    48:08-48:10

    We thank you for that.

    48:11-48:18

I pray, Father, for the children right now that are being discipled in children's ministry, as your word is being instilled into them.

    48:19-48:23

But even more so, Father, I pray for their parents, as they seek to disciple their children.

    48:25-48:44

So, Father, I pray, I pray that we're just, this is week two for us, but I pray for as would be to proclaim the authority of your word without apology as we make disciples.

    48:45-48:47

Because we know well that that's not your word.

    48:51-48:52

    We love you.

    48:54-54:26

We praise you. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

  • 00:00-00:05

I thought a great place to start would be to answer some questions that we have right out of the gate.

    00:06-00:10

And I'll just answer the questions that, frankly, I've been getting most often.

    00:12-00:15

And the first one is this. Where's James McDonald at?

    00:16-00:21

He's in Chicago. Actually, on the west side of Chicago, Rolling Meadows.

    00:22-00:27

And he's also preaching in Elgin this morning, so that's where he is.

    00:28-00:37

And another question I get frequently is, "Well then, who are you?" I'm serving as the pastor, as I told you.

    00:39-00:46

People say, "You're the pastor? How old are you, kid? Does your mom know that you put your big white clothes on?" Yeah, very funny. I'm 36.

    00:48-00:54

And I've been in pastoral ministry now, blessed to serve the Lord for the last 14 years of my life.

    00:55-00:58

Here's a couple more questions that I get a lot.

    01:00-01:01

What kind of church is this?

    01:02-01:05

Actually, we'll be spending some time talking about that this morning.

    01:07-01:18

But, you know, another question I've heard a lot is, "Do we really need another church around here?" And that's a fair question. Do we really need another... There's a lot of great churches around here. There are.

    01:19-01:23

We could run down a list of great churches in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.

    01:24-01:28

But to say, "Do we really need another church around here?" Here's how I'd answer that question.

    01:29-01:34

Do we really need another church that's proclaiming the authority of God's Word without apology?

    01:35-01:39

Do we really need another church that's lifting high the name of Jesus through worship?

    01:40-01:45

Do we really need another church that believes firmly in the power of prayer and is crying out to the Lord?

    01:45-01:50

Do we really need another church that shares the good news of Jesus with boldness?

    01:51-01:52

What's the answer to that question?

    01:53-01:55

We could use a church like that on every corner, right?

    01:56-02:00

We need 500 more churches like that just in this neighborhood.

    02:02-02:04

So let's get to the first question.

    02:04-02:05

What kind of church is this?

    02:07-02:21

Well, when a group gets together to accomplish a purpose, they craft a statement that keeps themselves on track and lets everyone know exactly what they're all about, and those are typically called mission statements, right?

    02:22-02:27

And I was looking up some mission statements of some companies that I'm sure you're familiar with.

    02:28-02:31

And I was trying to see what it all boiled down to.

    02:32-02:34

When they say, "This is our mission," what are they really after?

    02:34-02:36

    Well, here's Toyota's mission.

    02:37-02:37

    Anybody drive a Toyota?

    02:38-02:39

    The church, okay.

    02:39-02:41

Do you know what Toyota's mission is?

    02:42-02:43

    Here it is.

    02:43-02:50

To sustain profitable growth by providing the best customer experience and dealer support.

    02:51-02:56

And what does that all boil down to, to sustain profitable growth?

    02:56-02:58

That sounds to me like it really just boils down to money.

    02:58-03:09

And I'm not criticizing that, they're a business and I imagine they're in it to make money, but that's what it sounds like it boils down to when they say to sustain profitable growth.

    03:11-03:12

    How about McDonald's?

    03:12-03:14

Do you know what McDonald's mission statement is?

    03:16-03:21

McDonald's vision is to be the world's best Quick service restaurant experience.

    03:22-03:33

Being the best means providing outstanding quality service, cleanliness and value, so that we make every customer and every restaurant smile.

    03:34-03:37

So when you boil all that down, what is McDonald's going after?

    03:38-03:40

    Smiles, right?

    03:40-03:49

And my experience has been I'm usually smiling while I'm eating McDonald's, and an hour later, I find myself not smiling.

    03:52-03:55

So they kind of do their job sometimes with me.

    03:55-03:56

    How about Disney?

    03:57-03:58

    I love Disney's mission statement.

    03:58-03:59

    You ready for this?

    03:59-04:06

We create happiness by providing the finest in entertainment for people of all ages everywhere.

    04:06-04:08

So when it all boils down, what's Disney going for?

    04:09-04:11

    Happiness, right, happiness.

    04:14-04:24

But by far the greatest secular mission statement is from an internet news reporting site that's called Nutsworld.

    04:25-04:29

As in crazy, but it's edgy because nuts is spelled with a Z.

    04:30-04:33

And you know when something's spelled with a Z, that's extreme, right?

    04:36-04:38

Like Mountain Dew with the live out can.

    04:38-04:41

Well nutsworld.com, listen to their mission statement.

    04:43-04:44

    Number one, rule the world.

    04:46-04:48

Number two, get lots of cookies.

    04:50-04:52

    Number three, eat the cookies.

    04:53-04:56

    Number four, get more cookies.

    04:57-04:59

And number five, eat those cookies too.

    05:00-05:05

So when you take that company's mission statement and boil it down, what are they after, church?

    05:06-05:07

    Cookies, right.

    05:08-05:12

All right, well, I wanna tell you that we're not after profit here.

    05:13-05:15

But we do hope that you smile.

    05:16-05:19

And we're pursuing joy, not necessarily happiness.

    05:20-05:23

And honestly I hope to get some cookies every now and then.

    05:24-05:28

But what is the mission of the church?

    05:29-05:30

What is the mission of the church?

    05:31-05:35

If I asked you what should the church be about, how would you answer that question?

    05:36-05:37

What should the church be about?

    05:38-05:41

Some people would answer that question by saying the church should be about fellowship.

    05:42-05:51

The church should be about, here's a group of people that I love and identify with and we kind of carry each other's burdens, and the church should be about fellowship.

    05:53-05:55

Well, that's really not the mission of the church.

    05:57-05:58

    I'm all for fellowship.

    05:58-06:03

I love my Christian brothers and sisters more than I can ever tell you, but the mission of the church is not fellowship.

    06:04-06:11

In fact, if all the Lord was interested in was you having perfect fellowship, the minute you got saved, he just take you up to heaven.

    06:13-06:14

So the mission of the church isn't fellowship.

    06:16-06:18

Some people say, well, the mission of the church is praise.

    06:20-06:21

    Now we're big on worship.

    06:23-06:33

And you see an amazing couple up here leading worship, who are working on assembling some more band members and adding to this piece that you see up here.

    06:34-06:35

We're really fired up about worship.

    06:37-06:41

But again, the mission of the church is not worship.

    06:41-06:45

If God just wanted us to worship perfectly, as soon as we got saved, what would he do with us?

    06:45-06:51

He'd take us to heaven where there is perfect worship 24/7, I can't wait for that.

    06:52-06:57

Read Revelation chapter four and five sometime, where it's just all praise all the time.

    06:58-07:00

and it is going to be incredible.

    07:00-07:02

But that's not the purpose of the church.

    07:02-07:04

    Does the church do fellowship?

    07:04-07:04

    Yes.

    07:04-07:05

    Does the church praise?

    07:05-07:06

    Yes.

    07:07-07:08

What about holding the doctrinal line?

    07:09-07:14

Some people say, "Well, that's the mission of the church "is we hold the line doctrinally." And we should.

    07:16-07:17

But that's not the mission of the church either.

    07:18-07:27

Because if the Lord was only interested in us being doctrinally perfect and being amidst a group of doctrinally perfect people, where would he take us as soon as we got saved?

    07:28-07:30

He takes us to heaven, right?

    07:31-07:37

So these are all good things, but I want you to understand that these are not the mission of the church.

    07:39-07:40

    Here is our mission statement.

    07:41-07:42

We actually have it on this banner up here.

    07:42-07:45

This is the mission statement of Harvest Bible Chapel.

    07:46-07:52

It is to glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

    07:55-07:57

And there is more that somehow didn't make the sign.

    07:57-07:58

But the rest of it is the mission statement.

    07:58-08:00

of it is in the spirit of the great commandment.

    08:03-08:05

So to glorify God, first of all, what does that mean?

    08:06-08:09

To glorify God means you're manifesting his presence.

    08:09-08:12

You're letting God be made known in and through you.

    08:12-08:14

That's what it means to glorify God.

    08:16-08:22

Now in the spirit of the great commandment, you know the great commandment, when Jesus was asked, what's the greatest commandment, what did he say?

    08:23-08:30

The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your mind, all of your soul, and all of your strength.

    08:30-08:32

And the second is like it, which is what?

    08:32-08:33

Somebody shout it out, you know it?

    08:34-08:35

Love your neighbor as yourself, good.

    08:36-08:38

Jesus said that's the great commandment.

    08:38-08:41

All the law and the prophets hang on that.

    08:41-08:47

So we wanna make God's presence made known by loving him and by loving people.

    08:47-08:51

What I wanna talk with you is what this great commission is all about.

    08:52-08:54

And turn in your Bibles to Matthew chapter 28.

    08:56-09:00

Matthew 28, we are going to be picking up in verse 16.

    09:13-09:17

Now the last thing that Jesus said to his disciples is the mission statement.

    09:17-09:19

And again, that is where we get ours.

    09:20-09:25

That's why the title of this message is, Jesus' Last Command is Our First Priority.

    09:26-09:28

And I want you to say that, I want you to make it personally.

    09:29-09:34

Say, Jesus' last command is my first priority.

    09:34-09:35

Let me hear you say that.

    09:36-09:39

Jesus' last command is my first priority.

    09:39-09:41

You didn't say that with a lot of conviction.

    09:41-09:42

I know this is launch Sunday.

    09:43-09:45

Maybe you're not so in it yet, let's take another run at it.

    09:46-09:50

Go, Jesus' last command is my first priority.

    09:50-09:51

    Would you believe that?

    09:54-09:56

Well, look at verses 16 and 17.

    09:57-10:03

And I'll give us an on-ramp here as to what Jesus' last command is.

    10:03-10:08

It says, "Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, "to the mountains of which Jesus had directed them.

    10:11-10:30

"And when they saw him, they worshipped him, "but some doubted." Jesus had died, resurrected, and was about to ascend back into heaven.

    10:30-10:33

But notice in verse 16 it says that Jesus directed them.

    10:34-10:35

    Jesus had called a meeting.

    10:39-10:40

And it says some worshiped and some doubted.

    10:41-10:43

    That's every church everywhere.

    10:44-10:46

Right? You're going to have people coming together.

    10:47-10:49

Some people are going to worship, some people are going to doubt.

    10:50-11:00

And obviously in this case, there are probably some people, "Is that really Jesus?" And, you know, trying to make sense of the whole death and resurrection, all the significance of that.

    11:01-11:03

I just love the honesty of God's Word.

    11:03-11:04

It just says some of the people there are just doubting.

    11:05-11:10

Like, "I'm not sure what's going on here." So Jesus called this meeting.

    11:10-11:14

Let me ask you, have you ever been in a meeting where you felt like nothing got accomplished.

    11:14-11:15

You ever been to a meeting like that?

    11:17-11:18

Where you felt like nothing got accomplished?

    11:20-11:21

    You're like, no, not me.

    11:21-11:22

Well, I wanna work where you work.

    11:22-11:30

'Cause I've been in a lot of meetings like that where three hours later, you're packing up and you're walking out and you're like, okay, let's make a list of the things that we got done.

    11:32-11:37

Something got tabled, something got postponed, something needs further consideration.

    11:39-11:50

We really didn't get anything done, But the purpose of this meeting would change the course of history forever.

    11:55-11:58

Because Jesus is about to tell the disciples what their marching orders are.

    11:58-11:59

I want you to think about this.

    12:00-12:04

Without the Great Commission, without this meeting, where would we be today?

    12:06-12:13

The story of Jesus would probably be just in a catalog of other amazing stories.

    12:14-12:19

True stories that happened to people throughout history, that would probably just be in the catalog, right?

    12:21-12:31

But here with this meeting, Jesus is saying this death and resurrection, this salvation that was purchased is the basis for your mission.

    12:35-12:39

So this meeting Jesus is telling his disciples that the rest of the story is us telling the story.

    12:40-12:44

Even though this comes at the end of the book of Matthew, this is not the end of the story.

    12:46-12:50

In fact, the story goes on with this church plan.

    12:52-12:55

It's exciting to consider that we are part of the story, right?

    12:56-13:00

Jesus said, "Something's going to happen with this ministry that I accomplish.

    13:00-13:08

It's going to be carried forth and disciples are going to make and it's going to carry And here we are today, day one of Harvest Bible Chapel, Pittsburgh North.

    13:09-13:10

Wow, that sounds good to say.

    13:10-13:16

And here we are, and we're carrying forth the rest of the story.

    13:18-13:19

The three quick things I wanna share with you.

    13:23-13:25

Jesus' last command is my first priority.

    13:25-13:27

    Number one, submit.

    13:29-13:32

You take your notes in the back of your bulletin, drop this down.

    13:32-13:34

I make disciples under the authority of Jesus.

    13:36-13:38

    Under the authority of Jesus.

    13:39-13:56

Look at verse 18, it says, "Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth "has been given to me." Let's stop there for a second, because this is one of the biggest statements ever stated.

    13:58-14:02

Authority is the power and the right to do something.

    14:04-14:06

    That's what authority is.

    14:07-14:09

It's the power and the right to do something.

    14:12-14:14

And authority is something that must be recognized.

    14:15-14:18

That's why I have on your outline, we submit to the authority.

    14:23-14:33

Many years ago, when I was, I took a, I took a group of teenagers up to a church.

    14:33-14:36

They had this overnight retreat thing where there was all kind of movies and games.

    14:37-14:39

And I was the associate pastor of the church.

    14:40-14:42

And I was early 20s at the time.

    14:42-14:46

And I took this group of teenagers up to this retreat.

    14:47-15:00

And the pastor at this host church said, "Teenagers, I don't want you going outside unless you're with an adult." And again, did I say this was early in my ministry?

    15:01-15:10

Some of the teenagers came up to me from our church and they were like, "Hey, Pastor Jeff, can we go outside and play basketball?" And my first thought was, "Oh, you know what?

    15:10-15:13

We need an adult for that." And I'm like, "Wait, wait a minute, wait a minute.

    15:15-15:17

I'm the adult." And it was like epiphany.

    15:17-15:18

It started to click with me.

    15:18-15:21

Like, "Yeah, yeah, I'm the adult.

    15:21-15:26

I'm the adult." So all of a sudden I was feeling, you know, pretty employed.

    15:26-15:29

I'm like, teens, I'll take you outside.

    15:30-15:32

Don't worry, I authorized this one.

    15:33-15:57

So I took the teenagers outside, we were playing basketball, and the senior pastor of this church comes up to us, and he said, "Hey, I thought I told you kids you weren't supposed to be out here unless you had an adult." So I stepped up, I said, "It's okay, I'm with them." I just pass him off to him, he goes, "Are you the adult?" And I'm like...

    15:58-15:59

    (laughter)

    16:00-16:03

But I felt so, like, deflated.

    16:03-16:05

Like, you don't recognize my authority!

    16:05-16:08

I'm the associate pastor guy here!

    16:09-16:09

    And...

    16:09-16:10

    Are you the adult?

    16:13-16:13

    Yeah.

    16:15-16:19

Or maybe, maybe, uh, I'm thinking of this, but maybe your mother said this.

    16:19-16:20

Do you have a mother that said this?

    16:20-16:21

I have a mother that always said this.

    16:23-16:25

When she'd tell you to do something Why?

    16:27-16:28

    Your mother said what?

    16:29-16:36

Because I said so, or my mom's variation of that was, because I'm your mother, that's why.

    16:37-16:37

    Right?

    16:38-16:39

Anybody have a mom say that to them?

    16:39-16:40

    Because I'm your mother.

    16:41-16:42

Well, why do I have to do this?

    16:43-16:45

Because I'm your mother, and I said to do it.

    16:45-16:46

    You're like, well, okay.

    16:48-16:49

I see where this is going.

    16:50-16:55

Well, look at what Jesus said about authority.

    16:55-17:00

Jesus said, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

    17:00-17:03

So who's in charge here at this church plan?

    17:03-17:05

    Tell me. Jesus is.

    17:05-17:07

    Who's calling the shots?

    17:07-17:08

    Jesus is.

    17:09-17:14

What about in Aspinwall or Alaska or Africa?

    17:14-17:15

Who's calling the shots in those places?

    17:16-17:17

    Jesus is.

    17:18-17:18

    Right.

    17:20-17:22

Who is in charge of heaven?

    17:24-17:24

    Jesus is.

    17:26-17:27

    Says who?

    17:28-17:33

"For that is Jesus' authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." God the Father.

    17:35-17:39

Your Bible tells you that He gave Jesus the name that is above all names.

    17:42-17:44

    God gave Jesus all authority.

    17:45-17:49

I understand that this is the biggest claim that a human being can ever make.

    17:50-18:00

Jesus in this passage is saying, "I'm in charge of everything." I'm in charge of everything.

    18:03-18:03

    What about the angels?

    18:04-18:05

Who's in charge of the angels?

    18:05-18:05

    Jesus is.

    18:05-18:06

Who's in charge of the church?

    18:06-18:07

    Jesus is.

    18:07-18:08

    What about the government?

    18:10-18:11

    Jesus.

    18:11-18:15

All spiritual, physical, temporal, eternal matters.

    18:15-18:16

    All Jesus.

    18:16-18:17

    All Jesus.

    18:17-18:18

    All Jesus.

    18:18-18:20

    He's of all authority.

    18:20-18:22

I looked up that word "all." Do you know what it means?

    18:22-18:23

    It means all.

    18:23-18:26

All authority has been given to Jesus.

    18:26-18:29

    He has all authority.

    18:31-18:39

Now, if you've read your Gospels, I'm sure you have, but you'll note that Jesus never played the authority card like this anywhere else in His ministry did.

    18:40-19:02

I can't think of any other passage where Jesus said, "I want you to do something, and I'm telling you to do it, because I have all authority." Typically, Jesus said things like, "The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost. The Son of Man came to serve. I came to lay down my life, and I'm the good shepherd that lays down his life for the sheep." Typically, he said things like that.

    19:03-19:08

This is a unique thing for Jesus to be stating this truth.

    19:09-19:33

But he's preparing to leave and he's passing on the mission and what he's saying is, "What I'm about to tell you to do is so important and you need to listen to every word that I say because I have all authority in heaven and on earth." Jesus' last command is my first priority.

    19:34-19:35

    We can't question His will.

    19:36-19:37

    We can't stop Israel.

    19:37-19:51

In Matthew chapter 16, as Ken Shaw quoted, Jesus said, "I will build my church." So we have two options with that statement.

    19:52-20:54

We can either get on board and participate, or we can reject or rebel against his authority involved in the blessing that is building the church but it's going to happen Jesus says I will build my church and he says all authority and heaven on earth has been given to me it's going to happen so the first thing we need to do as we consider the mission of the church we need to submit under the authority of Jesus secondly let's look at verses 19 and 20 secondly we want to obey "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." We'll stop there for a second.

    20:55-21:05

The second man you're outlining, "Obey, I make disciples according to the pattern Jesus gives." was this meeting that Jesus had called.

    21:07-21:12

And this is the mission statement that's still going on 2,000 years in effect.

    21:12-21:16

We haven't changed it because Jesus hasn't changed his mind.

    21:16-21:17

What does he call us to do?

    21:18-21:24

Well, he says, "Make disciples." He's going to make a disciple right now.

    21:27-21:31

And you might be thinking, well, doesn't this new church have a gimmick?

    21:32-21:34

You're like a new church and it's kind of cool.

    21:34-21:36

We're meeting in a school auditorium.

    21:36-21:36

    So what's your gift?

    21:37-21:37

    We don't have a gift.

    21:40-21:43

You know, what's distinctly unique about this church?

    21:44-21:45

    We're still going with this.

    21:47-21:53

We're still sticking with, under the authority of Jesus Christ, we're making disciples.

    21:53-21:55

He made it clear what the jobs are.

    21:55-21:57

He built a church, we make disciples.

    21:57-21:58

    And what's a disciple?

    21:59-22:06

Well, a disciple is literally a learner, somebody who follows Jesus Christ.

    22:06-22:07

    That's what a disciple is.

    22:08-22:12

But understand here, Jesus didn't say to go there for big churchgoers.

    22:15-22:19

Go there for a big people who just think the same way you think.

    22:21-22:23

What did Jesus say to go do?

    22:24-22:28

He said to make followers of Him.

    22:30-22:32

And what gives us the right to do that?

    22:32-22:34

I had somebody tell me that one time.

    22:34-22:52

You know, she said, "What gives you the right "to tell someone how to believe?" I said, "Well, actually, Jesus gives me that right "because He says that He has all authority "and He told me to do this, "so you're gonna have to take it up with Him." But the basis of our job is the all-encompassing authority of the Lord.

    22:53-22:54

    So how are disciples made?

    22:54-22:56

This is real easy, look at your text.

    22:57-22:58

    Underline these words.

    22:59-23:01

Here's how a disciple's made, the first thing is go.

    23:03-23:05

You know, like here comes mission sermon, right?

    23:05-23:09

This is where he's gonna tell us that unless we go to China, we're not being faithful.

    23:10-23:11

    That's not what this means.

    23:13-23:21

It could mean that, but go doesn't mean, well, you can't make disciples here, you gotta be a thousand miles away before you can make a disciple.

    23:21-23:24

What go actually means is as you are going.

    23:26-23:32

Meaning under your household parents, you have responsibility to make disciples of your own children.

    23:35-23:41

That means that your place of employment, you need to be seeking where the Lord's opening doors for you to make disciples there.

    23:44-23:50

In your neighborhood, just fill in the blackboard, wherever the Lord sends you, what are you supposed to do while you're there?

    23:51-23:52

    That's the going, you see.

    23:53-23:54

    You're going and making disciples.

    23:58-24:13

He says, "Make disciples of all nations." All nations includes Liberia, and Egypt, and Thailand, and it includes that, all nations also includes your backyard.

    24:14-24:19

Not everyone is called to go overseas, go to a third world country.

    24:19-24:21

Some people are, and praise the Lord for that.

    24:21-24:23

But not everybody's called to that.

    24:23-24:28

Like, you know, Pastor Jim, I don't really feel called to go across the ocean and make disciples.

    24:28-24:30

Okay, but you know what you are called to do?

    24:31-24:32

You're called to make disciples where God has you.

    24:33-24:36

That's true, because we are all called under the authority of Jesus.

    24:38-24:42

First of all, go, as you're going, wherever you're going.

    24:44-24:45

    Secondly, baptizing them.

    24:47-24:48

    Baptizing them.

    24:50-24:58

Now, does Jesus teach them that as long as we get somebody baptized, that's how they become a disciple?

    24:59-25:01

Obviously, the scriptures don't teach that.

    25:01-25:18

As one of my favorite preachers says, "If that's how somebody got saved, we could just dig a hole in the ground and fill it with water and as people were walking by, we could just grab them, throw them in the water and baptize them and bring them out and say, 'See you in heaven.'" But obviously, that's not how somebody becomes a disciple of Jesus Christ.

    25:18-25:18

But obviously, that's how we get baptized.

    25:18-25:25

Sometimes in scripture, baptism is used synonymously with salvation because of the picture that it represents.

    25:27-25:34

Baptism is an outward, visible sign of something that Jesus Christ does in here.

    25:36-25:43

You see, when you become a follower of Jesus Christ, the Bible says that you are dead, and you die to self.

    25:45-25:49

And Jesus Christ puts his life in you.

    25:50-25:51

And that's the picture of baptism.

    25:52-26:02

When you go under the water, you're saying, "I'm dead." And when you come up out of the water in Romans 6, you're identifying with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

    26:05-26:07

That's what Jesus is talking about.

    26:07-26:09

    He's talking about baptizing people.

    26:09-26:12

He's bringing people to salvation where they are dying to themselves.

    26:12-26:18

us and the resurrected life of Jesus Christ is alive.

    26:21-26:23

Would do us any good to launch the church.

    26:24-26:26

We didn't stop there for a second.

    26:27-26:28

If I ask you, have you done that?

    26:30-26:31

    Have you died to yourself?

    26:34-26:36

    Have you died to yourself?

    26:37-26:38

    Because if you have.

    26:40-26:42

If you haven't died, you haven't been raised.

    26:43-26:49

If you haven't identified with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you're not born again.

    26:52-26:58

Part of making disciples is to help people to understand that being a churchgoer is not being a disciple.

    27:00-27:07

Simply agreeing with some historical facts about the Bible is not the same as being a disciple.

    27:08-27:13

Simply saying Jesus is just alright with me is not the same as being a disciple.

    27:15-27:19

Being a disciple according to Jesus is dying to yourself.

    27:19-27:23

It's carrying your cross and saying it's no longer about me.

    27:25-27:27

When I was baptized Jeff Miller died.

    27:28-27:31

When they brought me up out of the water, my life was for Jesus Christ.

    27:32-27:38

And daily might I be an offering on the altar for Romans 12, a living sacrifice.

    27:40-27:42

We're going to be talking about that a lot here.

    27:46-27:51

Being a disciple means you have died yourself and been raised with Christ.

    27:53-27:58

And that outward demonstration of water baptism shows an inward reality.

    28:02-28:10

So go, baptize them, and finally he says, teach them to observe all that he commanded, all that I commanded, Jesus said.

    28:12-28:14

Teach them to observe all that he commanded.

    28:15-28:24

And that's why we stand up here and open the Bible and say, this is what Jesus commanded, so let's get on this.

    28:24-28:33

Jesus said, "Teach them to obey, to observe all that I have created." So this is the measure of our effectiveness.

    28:33-28:36

Are we making quality disciples? That's the question.

    28:38-28:40

Are we clearly and accurately preaching the gospel?

    28:42-28:44

    Are we making disciple makers?

    28:47-28:51

And at Harvest we want to focus on quality over quantity.

    28:53-28:55

Again, Jesus and I will build my church.

    28:55-28:57

Our job is to make disciples.

    28:59-29:01

In Harvest speak, what is a disciple?

    29:03-29:06

Well, here's how we talk about a disciple in Harvest Bible Chapter World.

    29:07-29:11

The in-house slang is known as the three W's.

    29:13-29:16

Or as my friend Dale calls it, Trey Dubs.

    29:18-29:21

    A disciple worships Christ.

    29:28-29:30

    A disciple walks with Christ.

    29:33-29:45

And obviously walking with Christ is your own time, feeding on God's word, your own time, on your face praying, but that's also being part of a small group that we'll be launching here in a few weeks, and we want you to be a part of it.

    29:46-29:50

And it means you're pouring yourself into other people, and you're allowing other people to pour into you.

    29:51-29:56

Worship Christ, walk with Christ, and the last thing is work for Christ.

    29:58-30:06

You know, 1 Corinthians 15, 58 says that we should be always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain.

    30:06-30:11

And working for Christ means that we're shouldering weekly kingdom responsibility.

    30:12-30:23

That you show up and say, how can I serve? Is it to greet people? Is it playing an instrument? Is it helping with children's ministry? How can I help carry out this weekly kingdom responsibility?

    30:28-31:42

Jesus said to go make disciples and you're saying you want us to go out to a world that hates God and Tell them that the feeling is not mutual You're telling me you want me to be rejected as the religious nut You know, they kill people for that in some parts of the world I'm not sure what to say. I'm not sure how to handle the fear. Well, here's where the best news comes in And I'm going end of the age. So how do I handle all this? Well, Jesus' answer is Himself. He says, "I'll be with you." And He didn't mean that in a poetic, metaphorical sense like, "Yeah, I got your back. You go ahead. You can make disciples.

    31:43-32:26

I'll be over here watching." That's not what He meant at all. Jesus said, "I will be with you." I'm going to this last phrase, "to the end of the age." To the end of the age.

    32:29-32:34

See, this is the good news, and it's the paradox that we're commanded to make disciples, but Jesus is the one who actually does the work.

    32:36-32:38

So if you're taking notes, jot these down.

    32:38-32:39

Here's some things that Jesus did not promise.

    32:41-32:43

First of all, Jesus did not promise it's going to be easy.

    32:44-32:45

    He didn't promise that.

    32:46-32:52

I think a lot of churches promote that, You know, following Jesus Christ is like Disney World.

    32:53-32:54

    It's not.

    32:54-32:59

If you've been walking with Christ, really walking with Christ for more than five minutes, I'm sure you've caught wind of that.

    33:01-33:05

Following Christ is not always easy.

    33:07-33:08

Jesus didn't promise that it would be.

    33:08-33:10

In fact, he actually promised the opposite.

    33:11-33:15

In this world, you will have, back in the same John 16, in this world you will have trouble.

    33:15-33:17

    He promised the opposite.

    33:17-33:18

So he didn't promise it's going to be easy.

    33:19-33:23

Secondly, Jesus didn't promise that people would be receptive.

    33:24-33:25

    He didn't promise that.

    33:26-33:29

In fact, Jesus actually promised the opposite, didn't he?

    33:31-33:36

He studied the parable of the sower of the seeds and the dirt in Matthew 13.

    33:38-33:41

Using that average, 3 out of 4 people reject the gospel.

    33:41-33:43

And I don't think that was meant to be, like direct correlations.

    33:44-33:46

You know, 75% of all people you ever meet reject the gospel.

    33:47-33:50

But what Jesus was saying is more people are going to reject it than accept it.

    33:51-33:59

But somehow we think, "Well, as long as we package it nice, and as long as we get the person to like us..." I can't believe they rejected the Gospel.

    34:03-34:07

"The servant is not above his master." If they rejected Christ, they wouldn't have rejected Him.

    34:08-34:10

And people are not always going to be receptive.

    34:11-34:15

So, let's not think that Jesus promised that it's going to be easy and people will be receptive.

    34:16-34:22

Thirdly, along the same lines, Jesus didn't promise them, always going to get the results that I want.

    34:26-34:29

Actually, Philippians one says that we should only have one expectation.

    34:30-34:30

    You know that?

    34:31-34:33

We go around so often with our expectations.

    34:34-34:36

We possibly also have one expectation.

    34:36-34:38

It's that I honor Christ in my body.

    34:38-34:39

    That's it.

    34:40-34:47

When you expect out of ministry today, Paul, he's like, "I have one thing, "that I honor Christ in my body." Well, how many people do you think you're gonna come to Christ today?

    34:48-34:49

How many churches are you gonna plan today?

    34:49-34:50

He's like, "I'm not thinking about that.

    34:51-34:56

"I'm thinking about will Christ be ordained with my blood." That's all I care about.

    34:58-35:00

So there's incredible power in this statement.

    35:01-35:03

    And there's incredible assurance.

    35:03-35:11

Jesus said, "I will be with you." There's power in presence, isn't there?

    35:12-35:13

    There's power in presence.

    35:16-35:33

When I was in junior high, there was a guy that was a grade ahead of me, but about six years older than me, who said if I showed up at the dance, he was going to kill me.

    35:34-35:36

Again, he didn't mean that metaphorically.

    35:36-35:39

He meant he was going to stab me to death if I showed up.

    35:41-35:43

And you can probably guess what this was over.

    35:43-35:44

    Go ahead and say it.

    35:45-35:46

    Yeah, okay, you got it.

    35:47-35:47

    A girl.

    35:48-35:51

He said he was going to kill me if I showed up.

    35:52-35:53

    I went to the dance.

    35:53-36:02

Now, when I was in seventh grade, I weighed about 50 pounds, and that's if I had a bowling ball in each of my pockets.

    36:04-36:06

I don't know why I showed up to that dance.

    36:06-36:09

I mean, I was thinking about this this week 'cause I was gonna share the story.

    36:09-36:10

I went, why did I show up there?

    36:11-36:13

Why in the world did I show up?

    36:13-36:14

    What was I thinking?

    36:15-36:16

    But I went.

    36:18-36:20

Well, he caught up with me.

    36:23-36:26

He kind of got up and squared up with me.

    36:27-36:29

And I'm thinking, this is it.

    36:30-36:31

It was a great 13 year run.

    36:32-36:33

    (audience laughing)

    36:33-36:33

    But it's all over.

    36:34-36:35

    My knees were shaking.

    36:36-36:37

    I thought, this is it.

    36:40-36:45

When all of a sudden, this giant hand comes on this guy's shoulder.

    36:47-36:49

And he turns around and looks up.

    36:50-36:51

    Here's my big brother.

    36:52-37:03

He says, "Can I help you?" And this guy said, "No, I was just leaving." And my brother said, "You're right, you were just leaving." And I'm going, "Yeah, you're right, you were just leaving.

    37:04-37:06

"Yeah, yeah, you was just leaving.

    37:06-37:10

"Here, I'll get the door for you." Yeah, I was real brave then.

    37:11-37:12

    Question, what made the difference?

    37:14-37:15

    What made the difference?

    37:15-37:20

What made the difference was the presence of somebody powerful.

    37:23-37:30

And by God's grace, that's the only way ministry gets done is because it's his presence within us.

    37:33-37:35

    That's where the power is.

    37:36-37:37

    We're just earthen vessels.

    37:37-37:44

The power is in the one working in us and through us.

    37:44-37:47

Nothing in the Christian life is meant to be done in our own power.

    37:49-37:50

    We can't save anyone.

    37:52-37:53

    We can't change hearts.

    37:53-37:55

We can't put life into dead people.

    37:56-37:57

Here's the thing, we know who can.

    37:58-37:59

    We know who can.

    38:01-38:07

One of the great mysteries of God to me is why he would choose to work through us.

    38:10-38:14

You realize God can accomplish his purposes any way that he wants to.

    38:14-38:15

    Do you know that?

    38:15-38:18

Psalm 115, I believe it's verse three, says, "Our God is in the heavens.

    38:18-38:29

"He does everything that he pleases." He can do whatever he wants, but he chooses to indwell and work through us.

    38:33-38:41

There's nothing more glorious than when you allow God to be at work for you, the changing course of eternity.

    38:43-38:48

You might be sitting here this morning saying, I didn't realize this was so important, what you do now.

    38:51-38:55

The question is, what are you going to do about it?

    38:57-39:04

That's the dangerous thing about biblical knowledge, 'cause we're accountable to do something with it.

    39:06-39:12

And the one who has all authority says, "I'm going to be at work in you.

    39:12-39:13

    "Now you go make disciples.

    39:14-39:15

"What are you gonna do with it?

    39:19-39:25

"You're gonna grab the cake on the way out and say, "I'm gonna think about it." There's nothing to think about.

    39:27-39:30

Jesus Christ called us to make disciples.

    39:30-39:32

His last command is our first priority.

    39:34-39:37

So you might be thinking, you signed me up, how do I do that?

    39:38-39:40

Well, here's what I'm going to ask you to do.

    39:40-39:41

I want you to be in prayer this week.

    39:43-39:45

I want you to really be in prayer.

    39:45-39:50

If you're making this church your home, we have people visiting with us today, some friends and family, and we're so glad that you're here.

    39:51-40:00

For those of you who are considering making the harvest your home, I want you to be praying about how you see yourself being involved in the disciple making process.

    40:02-40:05

If you look at your bulletin, there's a lot of ways that you can get plugged in.

    40:07-40:10

As I said, we're working on building a worship team.

    40:10-40:14

We have children's ministry, hospitality ministry.

    40:14-40:15

    We have a youth ministry.

    40:16-40:18

You can read all about these things in your bulletin.

    40:21-40:24

Small groups are gonna be starting up in about five weeks.

    40:24-40:27

Many ways to plug in, that's the great thing about a church plan.

    40:28-40:42

It's not like there's a line of people ahead of you for a job that you're like, "Oh, maybe in a couple of years "I'll be able to get involved in this." We have a wide open door starting fresh like this where you can get involved, making disciples right out of the gate.

    40:44-40:49

Over the next few weeks, we're going to be calling you, we're going to be challenging you.

    40:49-41:00

We wanna see everyone that's making harvest at home to stand up and say, I want to make disciples of Jesus Christ with Harvest Bible Channel.

    41:01-41:01

    Why?

    41:03-41:07

Because Jesus' last commandment is my first priority.

    41:07-41:08

    Let's pray.

    41:16-41:24

Our Father in Heaven, Forgive us when our priorities get so out of whack.

    41:28-41:31

We invest ourselves in so many things, and some of them are good things.

    41:34-41:39

But not everything we invest ourselves in, not everything is eternal.

    41:41-41:47

And I pray, Father, that you would light a fire in us as a brand new church plant right out of the gate.

    41:48-41:52

We're saying the last thing that Jesus told us to do is the thing that we're going to get after.

    41:53-41:56

He has the authority to tell us and he's giving us the power to do it.

    41:57-42:02

So, Father, I pray that you would work mightily in us.

    42:04-42:11

I pray for the people that are considering making harvest their home and who are going to be visiting with us and checking us out over these next few weeks.

    42:12-42:15

I pray, Father, you would lay on their heart exactly where you would have them serve.

    42:19-42:21

To be a part of making disciples.

    42:21-42:30

To be a part of altering eternal destinies through the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.

    42:32-42:38

Father, you are so faithful and we move ahead trusting you, God.

    42:41-42:44

You are going to work mightily in us.

    42:47-42:48

May we rest in the truth of God.

    42:48-42:52

    Great is your, faithfulness.
